Straight from selection criteria:

"All athletes will be ranked according to the national team points on June 3rd, 2019, as defined in the policies # 3 and # 4 of the 2018-2019 National Team Handbook. The athletes selected will be the highest ranked athletes in the National Point Ranking in every weight class.: - None of the athletes selected except +100 kg and 78 kg was the top ranked in their weight class.

The Pan-American Games might conflict with important world ranking event serving as
2020 Olympic Selection. In this case, the following ranked athletes might be selected. Final
decision will be taken by the HPD and the Head Coach.

Nah, he's 52 in ranking. He can easily qualify without this.

Probably they gave him a big paycheck to show up.

Today, but in a year he could drop. It's the same with Istomin at the Asian Games who was I think in the 70s at the time and is now over 100.

Yes, it is known that gringos need 3 months of meditation in Tibet before they compete in a world championship of any kind  that's why they don't bother coming here to compete with other world/olympic medalists of latin american countries.

Our committee announced 472 athletes for the Games, a little less than predicted since the number in Athletics was reduced by 5 (thanks to some mix-up with the organizing committee) and Bia Haddad withdrew from the Tennis competition (she was our best chance of a medal in this sport).

We can still qualify a team in Men's Rugby but that's unlikely given the pool composition of the qualifying tournament.

I called this earlier this month. Lol you would think, where over 400+ athletes extra entered in 2015, they would increase the quota to somewhere there, but no they came up with a hastily put system.

Nice use of gringos, and yes white people are the worst when it comes to everything :p. I do agree with you that I hate that best talent doesn’t always show up to these games. It doesn’t seem to be a problem with Commonwealth, Asian, African, Pacific, and other smaller games. I’m not sure why this event gets treated the way it does.
