They aren't allowed to run again, they are allowed to run. 17 relays qualified in the 4x100m, because two relays had the same time during the qualification period. And the stadium in Munich has only 8 lanes.

I just don't understand why they didn't make 3 runs with 6, 6 and 5 relays.

I mean again, because they (Turkey) ran in heat 2, and now they had that lone run in 'heat 3'.

TURKEY GRAB FINAL SPOT IN RE-RUN RELAY HEAT

Turkey have grabbed a spot in the final of the men’s 4x100m relay on Sunday after being allowed to re-run their semi-final alone in order to achieve the qualifying time.

The Turkish quartet were disqualified from the second semi-final earlier this morning, but appealed successfully against the judges’ verdict and were given the chance to better the qualifying time of 39.02 seconds posted by Italy, the slowest of the qualifers.

They did so by four hundredths of a second, clocking 38.98.

“During the qualifications, the guy from the lane two came in our lane, reached his arm and caught me in my chest,” explained lead-off runner Emre Zafer Barnes. “He interrupted our running. The appeal went in our favour, that feels good. The technical committee did a really good job.”

Ah, now they finally showed the relevant replay and yeah, Turkey was definitely impeded in their original run. Good for them they could go again.

They said they were impeded by the Finns.

Yeah, the Finn kind of punched his arm away (unintentionally, it seemed, but still) :p

And the nation they knocked out?  Italy.  :bones:

    • Judging always takes two or three minutes in these competitions - longer even for possible medal runs - for reasons above, so just saying DNI is a way of saying it's not worth comparing a fall on the third hit to a fall on the fourth hit since neither are going to affect the overall.
    • Scoring in all these events is a bit strange as they are not judging a pre-defined move to an absolute standard, as happens in diving, gymnastics etc, but are constantly shuffling around trying to score riders relative not only to each other, but to that riders' previous runs earlier in the competition and qualifying.
