and to makes things more interesting, Karavus had the leg and was about to score his last point for a superiority win but then that 4pts throw happened which changed everything.

Russia also won the 2nd gold but this will be their last men's freestyle gold medal. surprisingly they have nobody in the final for the next day :yikes:

It was a good afternoon for Iran, winning 2 gold and 1 bronze medals plus sending 4 wrestlers to the final for the next day :yes beating Russian 3 times today and securing the team title.

this was an "experienced" junior team, half of them were in our senior competitions already so it was expected to get good results here. 5 of these guys are still in race to make the senior team in 2021 World Championships in Norway.

a summary of the day, 2 gold for Iran, 2 for Russia and 1 for USA

next day finalists:

61: :IRI Amouzad vs :IND Ravinder

74: :USA O'Toole vs :KAZ Kuanyshbay

86: :IRI Firouzpour vs :FRA Magamadov

92: :IRI Hajiloueian vs :USA Elam

125: :IRI Akbarpour vs :ARM Gevorgyan

Nokhodilarimi was really good ...... Maybe he will make your senior team ....Team title seems to be Iran's for sure

well actually he already made the senior team for the 2021 Worlds. we had a very very complicated trial system for that tournament :d in weights our seniors failed before they simply gave the spot to the best junior wrestler (if they meet certain conditions) per those rules 3 of our junior wrestlers already made the senior team, Nokhodi at 79kg is one of them. 61kg and 65kg too. (even though our 65kg wrestlers here suck big time, they have to make a change)

also 57kg and 70kg guys will have a wrestle-off to make the senior team.

3 out of 4 in today finals for Iran. :) which means 5 gold medals in total. US won 3 and Russia won the remaining 2.

can't remember the last time Iran winning half gold medals in a junior world championship (if it ever happened) BUT it was an experienced team, 4 of these gold medals were totally expected. only 125kg was a complete surprise.

    • Some notable  retirements:   Elisavet Pesiridou (athletics - 100m hurdles) - She announced her retirement on her 34th birthday. She competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. She narrowly missed Paris 2024 despite being in good form, the rest of he field seemed to get stronger and her ranking was a bit lower even though she was quite consistent. She struggled with injuries in 2025.   Fani Tzeli (taekwondo) - She was 7th in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Still, she is only 24 yo and seemed to be rising up again after winning bronze at the European Championships so it is a bit surprising.   Aikaterini Divari (sailing) - She competed in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Only 25 yo.   AJ Ginnis (alpine skiing) - Despite winning a silver at the World Championships he never got to compete at the Winter Olympics as he was always unfortunately injured. A shame as he is by far our best winter athlete ever. Only 31 yo, and I have a feeling he might come back in 2030 based on his last interview...

    • Let's see how hard Brazil will try not to qualify again.
    • Well.  Having gotten it a bit at a distance a few comments about my experiences   Travel: Very happy. Flying to and from was a breeze (the plane home slighty delayed). The same can be said about getting around in Milano. Getting around outside was of course slightly harder, especially with some delays back from Antholx (but i guess that's not a big surprise when a lot of people leave a place in the mountains)   Atmosphere: Very happy around the venues, but it's also very clear that it's smaller than the Summer games. People weren't following the events wherever you went. Alcohol certainly made a difference between Paris and now. Sadly did experience a few who should certainly have stopped a couple of beers earlier.    The logistics at the venues:  Very easy to see that Santagiulia is new and absolutely not a perfect venue. Seems like some kinks were fixed when I got there, but there's still stuff to work out. The food at the Milano venues were meh and there were quite some lines. Tesero was a chaos when it came to getting food, but the quality was slightly better at the skiing venues.
