hard to believe Iran is going to host this event in 10 days and I don't hear anything about it! I knew about hosting this but I didn't know this will start in August. really surprised to see the dates :yikes:

I wonder if the event is being cancelled or something? as much as I love to see Iran hosting international events this is not the right time, with +500 deaths per day (and that's just the official number, they always say the real number is twice this) Iran is in the worst possible situation since the start of the pandemic.

I live 40km far from Tehran and I don't dare travel there even when I have to. it will be very surprising if 19 countries send their kids.

that's the interesting part, I have absolutely no idea! I don't hear anything about this competition which is very weird. cancellation or not I would hear something about it.

I did a bit of searching, absolutely no news about this. there is just a section in our volleyball federation website with the event's program. nothing else

contacting few people. it seems Iran is really going to host this!

the event will be held in Tehran (just one city) , they will use 2 stadiums (both in the same complex) outside of Tehran.

here are the groups, apparently we had some changes because of withdrawals. I still wonder if all 19 teams show up.

Group A: :IRI:POL:GUA:NGR:IND

Group B: :ITA:BRA:CZE:BLR:COL

Group C: :RUS:BUL:THA:BEL:CMR

Group D: :ARG:EGY:GER:CUB:DOM

I'm surprised at the height of the players. They are very tall, the libero, for example, is 193cm and he is one of the shortest on the team. :yikes:

And our women's under19 team is also quite tall, I don't know if this is a new trend for Brazil in the future, but it's good considering that the height of the last teams only decreased.

But of course, the important thing is the skills, so let's see how these teams will perform.

Decision tomorrow. Infantino sier at Det internasjonale fotballforbundet ønsker å øke antallet kvinnelag for å styrke kvinnefotballbevegelsen. OL i 2028 arrangeres i Los Angeles i USA. Fifa-forslaget kan havne på IOCs bord allerede på onsdagens styremøte. (NTB)

    • The national team trials to determine South Korea’s short track representatives for the Milan Olympics are currently underway. This week features three races (500m / 1000m / 1500m), followed by another three races next week (500m / 1000m / 1500m). The combined points from all six races will decide who earns a spot on the Olympic team, and a major shake-up in the men’s lineup is expected. In the first week, Rim Jong Un—winner of three gold medals at the 2025 World Junior Championships—claimed victory in the 1500m, while Shin Dongmin—also a triple gold medalist from the 2024 Junior Worlds—won the 500m. Hwang Daehon, the 2022 Olympic gold medalist in the 1500m, finished second in both races and is on track to make his return to the national team. At this rate, it seems unlikely that we’ll see familiar names like Park Jiwon or Kim Gunwoo at the Olympics.

    • Nothing too realistic. To be fair, rumours of Verstappen going to team X or Y (mostly Mercedes and Aston Martin) have been going on for years, I'm still expecting him to sit out his entire contract with Red Bull
    • But that's only a thing in the longer events, since one would generally go all-out in everything under 800 meters anyway.   For short/long hurdles, they should simply do the 100/110/400 meter hurdles twice, if they so badly want to have it as a double thing. Having all the hurdle specialists do flat races is fun for a bit, not gonna lie, but it makes the whole thing feel mostly like an exhibition event.   Besides, start this in a small stadium in the US instead of something big like this. Now it had the feel of a random training field somewhere in godknowswhere. Why does it need to be so massively American immediately, start a bit more...humble, and try and grow from there.
    • Oh, right, there is Hirscher  But I think that's unlikely as well, given his injury that kept him out of almost the entire season and his results before that which were nowhere near what he would need to qualify....I highly doubt it. It'd be cool, but I doubt it.
