Apparently his first race since last March.

I am actually more puzzled over Czech Republic apparently being eligible for the "Exotic Nations Cup". :d

Never heard of that guy :d

Also nice to see two Goutt-Goncalves on the slopes now, the new :TLS skiing dinasty

Okay, the "Exotic Nations Cup" is indeed Olympic qualification turned into pizza delivery routine.

Exotic athletes who have relatively good FIS points are only slightly faster than :GHA:JAM, who will probably both qualify now. :CPV DNS'd so I guess that story is over.

Czech skier was beating Maeder by 13 seconds in Montenegto last month.

Now Maeder is staying within 0.26 of the Czech in one run. With this rate of improvement, is Ghana winning a medal next month? :p

Ghana qualified. Jamaica has some work to do. Hubertus scored 115 pts in Race 2!

And considering how the winner got 35 points or so, there is a lot of room left for Hubertus and the Jamaican guy... It just depends whether they will go guns blazing tomorrow for the most ridiculous points...

The favorites are even slower today. All of them. Looks like they realized there was more room in the bag.

Even with all this though, the Jamaican guy is still 5 seconds off the pace.

EDIT: Hubertus needs 57 average between two races today. Not very likely to happen... unless they let him win both races or something (for example, one of the top guys pretends to miss a gate and climbs). Alexander needs 131 average which is doable but needs to be a little faster.

After many more set ups, including Simari Birkner conveniently climbing the course in Run 1 of Race 4 (are they reading this thread??), :JAM Alexander has qualified. Probably will be the weakest skier seen at the Olympics since :THA Vanessa Mae.

Hubertus failed after a mistake in the last run. Well, he would have probably failed to Q anyway, as his undoing was the DSQ from yesterday. :p

    • Your most ever at a Summer Olympics was 14 golds, 20 would be a big increase even with the new sports  I’d say out of them, only costal rowing has a chance of gold, and flag football a medal if they can qualify.    Wouldn’t breaking the 14 from 1984 be a good for Italy? I’d say so. They can’t all convert after all, and you’ve been hovering in the 8-13 range for a while (although Italy has gotten better the past two)   For Canada at least, 11+ golds would be amazing, anything else would be a bonus. We won 9 in Tokyo which is our highest total ever.
    • Personally, I'm really looking forward to Japan's performance in the World Cup. From the current situation, Japan has a very distinctive playing style. They have strong tactical ideas whether facing European teams or South American teams. However, Japan has never won a knockout match in the World Cup. As someone who has been following Asian football for a long time, I really admire Japanese football.
    • Italy didn't qualify again.    Well, now all that's left is for Germany to be eliminated again in the group stage and we'll guarantee another 4 years of "Brazil, the only five-time champion in history, nobody is bigger than Brazil, respect our history and blah blah" that we use on the internet.
    • Failing to qualify for the World Cup once can be put down to bad luck or other reasons, but missing out three times in a row must be due to an all-round gap. I feel sorry for Italy.
    • Italians can only blame themselves. Serie A has been run by foreigners more than any other Top 5 domestic league. There are zero global stars not named Donnarumma. This is the weakest Italian crop of players I can remember and it's not even close.   As for Poland, our defense did a terrible job. Unlike the much-maligned Michniewicz & Probierz who often parked the bus, Urban completely run out of BS luck since errors proved too numerous & too costly.
    • Okay, but defeats to Macedonia and Bosnia are unacceptable. Above all, let Italians start playing in Italian clubs... Look at Milan or Como...  Another think is the old and ugly stadiums - Türkiye or Poland currently have much better infrastructure than we do.
    • Problem is, that the current funding system of Italian sports - since 2018- relies on football paying the lion's share through taxes (around 70% of the sum that is redistributed). So the rest is strong until it can draw money from football, which in turn makes football weaker and less able to generate money and then who knows.
    • I prefer our current strong sport at all and weak football than a lucky promotion and defeat at the World Cup, as in 2010 or 2014. Sinner, Brignone, or Antonelli are worth 100 times more than losers like Bastoni.
    • if tonight's humiliation means 20+ gold and 50+ total medals in 2 years time in LA, I'll take it 1 billion times    and I'd never change the emotions of the 2 Olympic weeks in Milan (and the other sites) with just another average soccer world cup
    • Strong teams advance from the groups, especially since there are now 48 teams playing at the World Cup, not 32. It's Italy's fault that they lost 0-3 and 1-4 to Norway.
