for some unknown reasons Iran is not going to participate in this competition. they were supposed to leave yesterday but then all of a sudden they cancelled everything.   officially because

just one final consideration...   with only 16 events, we have 25 Nations getting at least a medal, 10 of them winning at least 1 gold...   we have all the Continents (but Oceania)

and Italy are starting with bad news...   Men's Kumite -75kg Olympic Champion Luigi Busà is injured and won't be able to compete here in Dubai...

officially because some of team members are COVID positive but that's a lie. they don't even train together to become infected altogether. there is another reason behind this, we still don't know what.

 

what a terrible news, Iran won the last 3 team Kumite gold medals and they were looking for the 4th gold in a row.

it was really close! but not quite...

:SVK Suchankova had the day of her life until the semifinal bout, destroying each and every opponent she faced, but then she missed out the chance to earn a spot in the Gold Medal match against the great Serbian, Prekovic...

still, she's going to fight for Bronze on Saturday (morning)...

      Until recently, Ukrainian fencing was just Kharlan and sabre. Maybe epee sometimes. I don't remember them ever was strong in foil. There was a time when Russia, Romania and Poland were strong in foil at that time when Italy dominated but I don't remember Ukraine anymore.   Hungarian women with Aida Mahomed were too strong for many years.

      A very ignorant statement.   Of course the UK is not exactly known for its winter sport but there are some ski resorts mainly in Scotland, like the Cairngorms or the Nevis Range.
