  1. Confirmation of what we all assumed World Taekwondo wished to add: https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1101169/world-taekwondo-mixed-team-paris-2024 I’m a little surprised they haven’t asked the IOC to include Poomsae.
  2. I’m just a little upset that I was promised five races from @heywoodu, and only got the full rundown on three
  3. Hey, I’m just going off what all the YouTube geography nerds have told me Like said, I’m not all that familiar with the governing system of the UK.
  4. Scotland is both an independent country and a member state of the United Kingdom. I’m not quite sure how it all works, but I know they have an independent parliament that passes laws that only affect Scotland.
  5. Solid plan from the the ISU. I think this is the best option available. I do wish we got one more World Cup, but that’s still a decent schedule all things considered. It’s going to be a fun month
  6. Ah, thanks. I didn’t bother to check quotas since I figured those athletes wouldn’t bother competing.
  7. If she wins speed, during the combined event, she’ll have a fair chance. It would still be pretty hard for her to qualify since she’s a speed specialist though. Based on form in past seasons, Gejo and Klinger are probably the favorites for the quota.
  8. Cyclocross and Country Country are ineligible since they are not run on ice/snow. Generally, I’m all for new sports/disciplines making their way into the Olympics. Snow Volleyball has a sound format, and would probably open the door to less traditional nations. However, traditional winter sports (for which the Winter Games were created in the first place), lose their protection. If Snow Volleyball is added, will Snow Handball, Snow Tennis, Ice Football, etc. be added? Every summer sport would just event a snow variant of itself (similar to what’s happened with beach variants in the last decade), in order to get an easy spot on the program. Winter Olympics should be for sports that require ice/snow in order happen, not for sports that just use it as a gimmick to get more international clout. That’s just my opinion.
  9. I really love this holiday commercial. Not a huge of Amazon, but they nailed it with this.
  10. Watched Frida for the first time tonight. I can absolutely see why it won academy awards for makeup and original score. I thought the costuming and set design were also top class. Overall, fantastic film. I know Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera for their art, since it is highly revered in California, but it was interesting to learn some the backstory (even if it was highly dramatized obviously). @mrv86 I was curious to know how they’re viewed in Mexico, having been members of the Mexican Communist Party and whatnot. All of our Spanish textbooks in the US feature their artwork, and most of my teachers/professors seem to have a positive opinion of them, so that’s why I’m curious to know what their legacy in Mexico is.
  11. I’ll defend the metric system over the imperial system, but American paper dimensions are absolutely the better of the two.
  12. Weather conditions could also still play a role in scheduling. I know that some of the venues reportedly have to rely on artificial snow, which could explain why you’d stack events in the early morning and evening (cooler parts of the day).
  13. I learned that the US has a different standard paper size than Europe today . Standard US Paper Dimensions: 215.9 mm x 279.4 mm Standard European Paper Dimensions (according to the YouTube video I watched): 210 mm x 297 mm
  14. The PCT time zone doesn’t work particularly well for either Asia or Europe, which probably gave the LOC more freedom. Time zone worked out really well for California though
  15. It’s about airing television coverage at the peak times when target audiences are most likely to watch the events. Biathlon for the Europeans, Freeski/Snowboard for the Americans and Canadians. Skating at a time that works for all three. That’s my best guess anyway.
  16. Those replays might be the greatest single factor as to why I love multi-sports games. I grew up watching the Biathlon events I haven’t really watched any of those replays since before Sochi 2014 though, and I’m starting to feel like this the perfect year/winter to relive some old memories.
  17. Yet another postponement to 2022. https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1101076/caribbean-games-postponed-to-2022
  18. Ireland has become the newest member of the International Luge Federation after the country’s membership was approved by the governing body. Ireland’s membership was accepted during the 68th Congress of the International Luge Federation, which took place virtually for the first time due to the ongoing global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Ireland becomes the 53rd country to become a member of the International Luge Federation. Ireland’s admittance into the FIL was met with great enthusiasm by luge athlete Elsa Desmond, who announced that she will begin sliding for the nation. In a post on Instagram, Desmond stated, “I am beyond excited to be able to officially announce that I will now be racing for Ireland! Thank you so much to everyone who has helped make this possible! I hope I can make you proud on the ice!” Desmond originally started luge as an athlete representing the United Kingdom. She has yet to officially start in a World Cup race, but she does have multiple Nations Cup starts under her belt. She also placed 10th at the 7th FIL U23 World Championships, which were held in tandem with the 48th FIL World Championships, where she finished ranked 30th. It’s unclear if Desmond will race for Ireland on the FIL artificial track circuit this year, but she did indicate in her Instagram post that she is targeting qualification for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games. She will be required to enter World Cup races in either the 2020-2021 season, or the 2021-2022 season in order to stand a chance at Olympic qualification. Her prior ranking as an athlete for the United Kingdom also suggests that she will have to attend the 2021 International Training Week at the Olympic track in order to meet the full requirements for Olympic qualification. Desmond’s first opportunity to represent Ireland will come soon, with the 2020-2021 FIL World Cup season quickly approaching. The 2020-2021 FIL World Cup begins in Innsbruck on November 28, 2020.
