Qualification Tracker

Test

Everything posted by Cobi

  1. It doesn't make any sense in fencing to have a mixed team. They already tested in cadets and the Youth Olympics and it was a mess.
  2. But 24 of those quotas are reserved for the team athletes. If you are not a great power and don't have a competitive team, you only have 2 quotas by ranking (in Europe) and another one by the Qualification Tournament. For a small country in fencing like us is extremely hard to get a single quota.
  3. and take the quotas in Laser. However, I think the Ducth sailor has not met the national standards, so would be the next in line to get the reallocation.
  4. It is going to be tougher than I initially thought, but I hope Spain can take one of the quotas. ¡Vamos Joel!
  5. 24th place for Spain but receiving points from 15 national jurors, which is not far from my personal record (6th place in the 2019 Open with 17 countries). As expected, the song is not good enough to be at the top of the lists (no medals and a 5th place as our best result), but it has managed to score a lot of low points, which is always nice. As I said this morning, I was afraid that nobody would vote for it given the high average quality of the edition. It has been a tough year for Spanish music, with trap and reggaeton being the most listened genres and sending those songs is very likely an invitation to score 0 points, so I just chose a typical pop song, hoping to do it decently. My goal for the Open edition is to get back to the top10. I will be sending one of the most popular bands of the country, but I am still undecided which song will be… Thanks again to everybody who has given points to Spain, especially @Werloc, @hckošice and @Wumosince it is the first time I receive points from Lithuania, Slovakia and Denmark. Hopefully, Romania, Greece, Canada, the US and the other Nordic countries will join that list soon . Apart from “Cuando éramos dos”, my other candidate to represent Spain this year was “Chico Pum”:
  6. Congratulations ! And also to the members of Knights for the team bronze medal! Good job !
  7. I was going to say the same. He deserves better.
  8. Let's go Knights! We are still in pace to get the bronze... But I don't think that Spain is going to contribute much for the last 3 jurors
  9. Some stats about Spanish votes (it is the 4th time I am participating, so I am just considering the last 4 editions): It is the first time that Finland, Norway, Kazakhstan, Ireland and Greece receive points from Spain. Italy is the first country that receives twelve points twice (Annual 2020). Furthermore, it is the only country alongside Portugal that has always received at least one point. It is the first time that I didn't vote for Canada, but they keep the third place in the total number of points given (22). First time the US receives a medal from Spain (6th place in Open 2019 was the last and only time I gave them points). About the points received, nine countries have never given a point to Spain. Three of them (Romania, Czech Republic and the US) already voted in this first session and did not give us any points.
  10. I love Francesco Gabbanni since he participated at Eurovision, so Italy was my favorite for the 12 points since the beginning, although I really liked Greece too and it was a close call. My reserves were Slovenia, Germany and Slovakia.
English Translation of Goodbye Congratulations to the 12 countries that have received points! The competition has been very tough and there have been more than 12 songs that have entered my playlist, but there was not room for everyone. Good luck for the rest of the contest!

  14. I don't have high hopes with my pick for this edition, so it's very nice to score at least one point from the beginning. I was a little bit afraid of not having a single point this year Thanks @OlympicIRL!
  15. Guatemala Ricardo Arjona - No es el Momento Ricardo Arjona, top16 at the Special Event last summer, published this song a few weeks before the start of the edition. I hope you like it!
  16. I sent my votes today. It has been difficult to rank the songs and I needed 5-6 listenings to decide the 11th and 12th place, but I am quite happy with my final ranking.
  17. I think that the problem of handball isn't the system, it's the level of the sport, which is mainly Eurocentric. I agree with you that continental representation is very important at the Olympics, but that's already achieved with 2 American teams, 2 Asians and 1 African. The best teams should have the right to participate at the Olympics and with the current system, we already have very strong teams such as Croatia not making the cut to Tokyo. Applying the system you just proposed, we would have only 5 Europeans instead of 7, which means 2 more potential medal winners not being able to participate. Given the progression of teams such as Egypt, Brazil or Argentina, I would say that in the medium term European teams will have good competitors from other continents and they will have the chance to earn the right to participate in the pitch. But I don't get the point of letting a team participate knowing that it is going to lose all the games, just because the country is in Asia or Africa and it isn't even the best of the continent.
  18. It wouldn't make any sense to give a quota to Oceania in handball, where the best team wouldn't be able to win a single game. Especially when this means that a top-tier team wouldn't qualify because of that. In my opinion, Asia and Oceania should have combined continental qualifiers in the majority of sports due to the lack of represenattivty of many Oceanian qualifiers (in team sports my only exception would be rugby).
  19. After a few listenings during the week I have already fixed my top5, but I still have 10 candidates for the remaining 7 point-positions and it's being quite difficult to choose one song over the others....
  20. I was just asking because next week we could have that situation in the women's foil with Spain, Poland and Israel, and I am not sure if the category of the event is important or it doesn't matter.
  21. So, in the case of individual events, is more important a gold medal in a Satellite than a silver medal in a Grand Prix?
  22. They had a 3rd place in the zonal champs. Is that result better (40 points) than a 13th place in the World Champs (42 points)?
