  1. I'm just kidding. I don't expect Brazil to win this match, to be honest, and after a very challenging match against Argentina in the preliminaries even the bronze medal is at jeopardy. But I'm confident the women's team, at least, can still win gold. It's not going to be easy and, once again, nothing is guaranteed, but there's a bigger chance of winning gold with the women's team than with the men's team.
  2. Heartwarming news: Rebeca Andrade will be Brazil's flag bearer at the closing ceremony Source: https://riotimesonline.com/brazil-news/miscellaneous/tokyo-2020-rebeca-andrade-will-be-brazils-flag-bearer-at-closing-ceremony/
  3. Wow, I'm surprised to discover that Barbosu is still not age eligible for the World Championships! But she will be available for 2022 and this is what matters. Romania absolutely needs her if they want to qualify a team for the World Championships in 2022. Voinea will only be age eligible in 2023, but I think Barbosu will be able to handle the pressure and lead the team in 2022.
  4. I don't know who's going to win this, but all I can say is: IT'S NOT GOING TO BE RUSSIA! I mean... ROC.
  5. I was rooting for Asaad after Reis got banned, so I'm glad he got it. Now Syria has both an Olympic medal and a medal at the World Championships in this sport. Amazing. To be honest, I think Asaad would have earned a medal even if Reis had competed here. Asaad is a beast. Reis didn't have great results after 2018 anyway, and even though media in Brazil was hopeful for a medal for him, Asaad is just better and Reis wouldn't have been able to get one anyway. I'm sure that one journalist skmewhere was even preparing a headline with a pun on his name in case he won a medal (Reis means kings in Portuguese).
  6. I will. I've started taking meds and it will be alright.
  7. I'm glad I had a heart check up yesterday and even though I discovered I have high blood pressure -- yes, it sucks -- at least my heart is in good shape. Following this marathon was all the proof I needed. LOL.
  8. I can see Romania qualifying a full team for Paris. However, there's something that might become a problem: uneven bars. Barbosu and Iordache are the only ones with acceptable routines, and I wouldn't count on Iordache from now on. She will probably retire. Her body can't take it anymore, unfortunately. Ceplinschi and Stanciulescu could help, in theory, but they need to improve quite a bit. I wouldn't trust Duta for any serious team, though, or even Trica, Preda or Trestianu. Sfiringu, Barbosu and Voinea have a bright future ahead of them, especially Barbosu and Voinea. If they are healthy, Romania will be very close to their glory days.
  10. The funny thing is that Turkey is kind of a newcomer, but a medal was not actually something unexpected. In fact, I expected a lot more from them. This bronze medal is still a historic achievement, but given the quality of their gymnasts, they could have walked away with four medals instead of one. A lot of missed opportunities here, for sure. I'm actually a lot more impressed with Armenia. Turkey spends a lot of money on gymnastics, but Armenia indeed has a small program with little hope of success. The fact that one of their gymnasts got a medal is mindblowing.
  11. I didn't expect this team to reach the final, but it's one more medal medal, so I'm not complaining. However, silver is probably the best that we can expect from Brazil, whoever the opponent might be.
  12. Well, this is what I think that should be done, but of course it's just my opinion and I'm sure a lot of people will not agree with me.
  13. About the finals: I totally get you. It's the weirdest edition of the Olympics I've ever witnessed. As a silver lining, at least, after years of the same old countries on the podium on the women's side, we finally had a big diversity of nations with a medal: Brazil, Japan, Great Britain, Italy, Belgium and South Korea, along with Japan, ROC and China, as expected. On the men's side, it actually felt like something was missing. Verniayev was out due to doping, Uchimura had a terrible performance, Nagornyy was mostly disappointing, the Swiss didn't even qualify for the finals, the Ukrainians had the worst possible Olympics in their lives, the Turkish performed badly in the finals -- except for Arican -- and, of course, Dalaloyan was injured and did absolutely everything he could, but still it felt like he's capable of a lot more. About Brazil: Rebeca got two medals, one of them gold, and both Zanetti and Nory failed, so I'm not only happy; I'm overjoyed. I'm only sad for Flávia. Of course she didn't deserve a medal here, but she works so hard and I hope she gets at least a medal at the World Championships before retiring. Maybe her foot will heal quickly enough for her to be able to go to the World Championships this year...
  14. Absolutely deserved medals, but I'm not that impressed with any of the medalists. Half of the finalists fell. A kind of bad ending to this edition of the Olympic Games, unfortunately.
  15. To be fair, this is how it's done in swimming, anyway. I prefer 2 per country instead of 3 per country. In my opinion, athletes don't represent themselves; they represent nations. That's why you have one football team, one handball team and so on, instead of two or three teams by the same country. The fact that even 2 per country are allowed, and that a nation has a chance to win gold even if one of their athletes fail, is already a big privilege in my opinion.
  16. This score for Black is too low. The only possible explanation is that the judges are deducting heavily lack of rhythm in the routines. Any sign of tentativeness and good bye precious tenths...
  17. Nice, a medal for Turkey. After all the bad luck from the previous day, it's good to see they have a medal now.
  18. Oh, that was quick. 6 competitors still to go on parallel bars but we already know the gold medal is going to go to China. This score is just unbeatable.
  19. Well, we can see history being made once again today in a number of ways. 1) Canada might win a medal in women's artistic gymnastics for the first time. Canada has a gold medal in every other discipline at the Olympics: men's artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline. 2) Australia can win a medal in artistic gymnastics for the first time. The nation only has one silver medal in trampoline. 3) Kazakhstan could win its first ever medal in gymnastics. After a fourth place in rhythmic gymnastics in 2004, I've been rooting for Kazakhstan, but now is the first time in 17 years that it's actually possible to win a medal. 4) Turkey could also win its first ever medal in gymnastics. Along with Israel, Armenia and the Philippines, Turkey is part of the most recent wave of nations with great results in artistic gymnastics. In my opinion, Turkish gymnasts are the most talented of the bunch, but the finals have been very disappointing so far. This could change today. 5) If Pakhnyuk fails to win a medal today, chances are that Ukraine will end up not winning a medal in gymnastics for the first time since its independence. I know that rhythmic gymnastics will be contested soon, but Ukraine has slim chances at best and only with the group. Still, it's merely a 1% chance. In reality, Pakhnyuk is their last realistic chance for a medal this year.
  20. Estou cautelosamente otimista. 12 medalhas conquistadas e mais 2 garantidas no boxe. SF no vôlei masculino e no futebol. Beatriz pode ir à semi hoje no boxe. À noite tem Ana Marcela. Tô achando que vai passar de 20 medalhas até.
  21. Iordache is out of beam finals. I'm heartbroken. This is not how artistic gymnastics at this OG was supposed to end. Really, really sad.
  22. Yes, @heywoodumentioned it. When he was 10 months old, he hit a pan with boiling oil and it fell over his head and shoulders. He was hospitalized for months. Also, the last time that a Brazilian individual won a medal on track at the Olympics was in 1988, so he broke a long lasting curse for us.
  23. Here I go crying again after a Brazilian who really deserved a medal managed to earn one.
  24. My heart wants Saraiva, Black and Iordache on the beam podium, with Biles hitting the routine but not winning a medal (she already got one here, after all). Of course what my heart wants is not what we will get in this universe. Maybe in a different reality.
