  1. yes, I think I wrote about that in another thread. of course this came from their passports. most of these athletes ask for passport when they are teenager (or even before that) and they give them a form to write their name in English. and some people make mistakes like this. they don't think putting a space is necessary. there should be autocorrect system or something like that. beside that. most people would officially drop these long 2nd parts if it wasn't a long process . still I know some people do that. the 2nd part is usually an uncommon word. for example I never heard the word "Karkaragh" before knowing this guy ! but I see some more professional international federations fix Iranian names themselves. for example IJF, they always use the "correct name" for our Judokas.
  2. if I'm not wrong he made the headlines at the time for having the longest surname ever at the Olympics. as I said before there is not a single report in Iran naming him anything beside Mohammadpour . again they forgot a space. btw now he is famous for something else beside his name. he became Olympic Champion few years later ! while finished 5th in actual tournament. but top 4 tested positive for drugs. he will receive his medal after 6 years .and 2 years ago I was the first person contacting him telling him that. even though he didn't believe me in first place
  3. I think there is a mistake here, as far as I know FIVB didn't give the same rank to teams from WCh, for example Italy finished 5th and Russia 6th. no joint 5th place. ranking will be a bit different.
  4. all 3 Iranians today in Karate had forgotten to add a "space" between two parts of their names. poor commentators have hard time to spell their names. even for me that's hard to pronounce let alone for an English speaking commentator what the hell is Ozomcheloei ! HEYDARIOZOMCHELOEI Mobina is just Mobina Heydari FARAJIKOUHIKHEILI Alireza is just Alireza Faraji KHONAKDARTARSI Fatemeh is Fatemeh Khonakdar both girls (Heydari and Khonakdar) made it to the semifinal and secured a bronze medal at least (first ever medal for Iranian girls in any other sport beside Taekwondo) but Faraji really ashamed Iranian Karate ! 3 matches, 3 defeats (including one against Guatemala), not a single point scored
  5. medal for Macedonia in karate !
  6. commentators for Karate have no clue about the rules JPN-THA match ended up 3-3 and the Japanese won the match by the Senshu rule ! but since they didn't know what the hell is this. they thought she won the match by "superiority" PS: Senshou means whoever scores first will have advantage in case of tie at the end. (senshu gets cancelled if you pick up a penalty in last 15 seconds)
  7. I think in Karate (unlike wrestling for example) all qualified athletes are pretty good. there are only 2-3 weak athletes in general. they wanted the best here not all continents represented probably they had their own reason. they have few chances to show Karate to the world and IOC and they didn't want one-sided matches here. I believe they will use the same format in Tokyo but except we will have a bronze medal match there. even though I'm not sure. that's just my guess based on the format they have for the World Games
  8. 4th place in canoeing. still good but a medal would be much better draws are also available in Karate which is our last chance for medal. we have two groups of 4. top 2 advance to the semifinal and there is no bronze medal match. both SF losers will receive bronze.
  9. at least he can get a bye in first round (unless there are exactly 32 wrestlers) this year's seeding is a joke because they didn't consider last year WCh results (since UWW changed weight classes this year) where is Kudiamagomedov ? still not eligible ?
  10. because of daddy Trump. the whole economy of Iran is in crisis now. but hosting competitions is not a big issue yet. the problem is sending teams abroad. they have to pay 3-4 times more than a year ago for plane tickets etc.
  11. Freestyle 57: Reza Atri 61: Mohammad Bagher Yakhkeshi 65: Amir Hossein Maghsoudi 70: Younes Emami 74: Mostafa Hosseinkhani 79: Ezzatollah Akbari 86: Hassan Yazdani 92: Alireza Karimi 97: Mojtaba Goleij 125: Parviz Hadi Greco-Roman 55: Moslem Naderi-Khadem 60: Mehrdad Mardani 63: Mohsen Hajipour 67: Mohammad Reza Geraei 72: Mohammad Ali Geraei 77: Pejman Poshtam 82: Saeid Abdevali 87: Hossein Nouri 97: Mehdi Aliyari 130: Shahab Ghourehjili
  12. what a match the atmosphere was like watching the FIFA Futsal World Cup final I really enjoyed watching futsal here. so many interesting matches (mostly Argentina included)
  13. that was indeed a penalty
  14. that was a textbook goal. experienced teams always score "easy goals" like this. btw if refs were better (and to me they are not) we should have 2nd penalty already in 2nd half . both teams play aggressive. so many fouls. I still think we will see second penalty here.
  15. I'm watching Futsal and surprisingly this is Argentina that dominating Brazil !
  16. Egypt just made it very easy for Russia. how the hell they didn't use the flying GK ?! when you are down by just 2 and you are in knockout round where GD doesn't matter and of course you can't create any major chances with 4 players you have to try something new. and damn, Russia shouldn't even be here if it wasn't for that last minute corner kick
  17. they are different actually. Beach wrestling now has official registered rules. we just had World Beach Wrestling Championship few days ago. but traditional wrestling means any kind of nonsense include grabbing someone's leg or throwing him.
  18. thanks that makes sense because we are doomed to always somehow get Poland in our group. but that group with Canada and Argentina looks easier, there is no "big team" there. (by big team I mean USA, BRA, ITA. SRB. POL, RUS and FRA) that's not a good news for European countries. with this I see only 4 European teams in Tokyo. and we have "at least" 5 very good European teams.
  19. 2 years ago I would care about this and already tried to calculate and find out our possible opponents in this OQT . but considering our current situation there is no way Iran can beat a top 6 team (most probably at its home) and qualify directly. so we have to focus on beating China and Australia in AVC QT. but still I would like to see our possible group to see which teams are going to beat us in the OQT.
  20. Or maybe they are just waiting till the end of Women's competition to publish both rankings together. just saying
  21. Portugal's 13th goal was just wow !
  22. watching Bolivia-Portugal in futsal. Bolivia started playing with flying GK very early and conceded two more goals very early at the end of 1st half but the funny thing is they don't even bother to replace the GK when they lose the ball. they just continue like that the final result will be something 20-1 for Portugal if Bolivia continues to play stupid like this. taking risk and trying your best to win the match is something but being stupid and getting humiliated is something else.
  23. IAWF.ir (Iran wrestling) usually posts photo gallery from the competition but most probably tomorrow. not now after midnight you also can check UWW instagram page tomorrow (if you didn't know that yourself) Iran Olympic committee website posted few pictures of today. the whole podium for 65kg but for 110kg. only our wrestler almost in tears on 2nd place !
  24. another silver in wrestling well I didn't expect this at all, if I had to make a prediction before the Games. this was our best gold medal chance but it seems you never can underestimate Russia in wrestling. Zare lost 6-5 and based on the scoreboard it seems he gave up a 4pts throw. it happens when you push your opponents, you also give him a chance to throw you. seriously that's a shame. they didn't even show a single minute of wrestling competition. no medal chance for tomorrow. let's see what we can get in Karate. 6 G - 3 S - 1 B so far. that will be nice if we can stay in top ten in the medal table.
  25. and Karimi lost to Azerbaijan as expected. only silver here. this is our first (and hopefully last ) defeat in wrestling in this YOG. Iran actually qualified 3 freestyle wrestlers but had to pick 2. 110kg was no question but they had to pick between 65kg world bronze medalist (who lost 8-2 in SF to Azerbaijan) or 80kg silver medalist who lost 7-6 to Russia in the final (later upgraded to gold but they didn't know that at the time they had to pick) and in a very stupid decision they picked up 65kg wrestler who lost easily 6-1 today. the only reason they didn't pick Ghiasi at 80kg was what happened at the end of this match. that was kind of punishment . he was leading 6-2 with 10 seconds to go and made a dumb mistake . and with this. Iran just easily threw away a possible gold.
