  1. so the only possible World Record for tonight is CJ. with only 120kg in snatch, he needs more than miracle to break the total WR and I don't think he is capable of that tonight. I hope at least he breaks that one WR. I was expecting more . only 1 out of 6 possible WR for the first day and if Om moves up to 61kg for the Olympics as he will for sure. I think these World Standards will remain for a long long time.
  2. yeah I'm glad nothing bad happened. but this guy was too fast, can't remember anybody as fast as him. he is World Junior Champion ,so I guess we will hear more about him in future. he just has to not kill himself. and btw his record in 2018 World Junior champs was 122kg ! that would give him the gold medal in snatch
  3. Damn. that was very dangerous. he was lucky you have to learn how to escape it first when you are dropping the weight.. his 2nd attempt was dangerous too. someone has to stop this guy before the 3rd try.
  4. Good point. yes true. I usually have that problem when I watch basketball and since I also like to watch the stats at the same times. spoiler sometimes. btw I'm watching this on an Iranian channel and when the Bulgarian came the commentator talked about the history of Bulgaria in weightlifting and how they had a champion Ivanov !! I'm a bit lazy to check but I somehow think the guy didn't really know what he is talking about, (as most Iranian commentators do) Ivanov is a common name in Bulgaria. there is a big chance we have a World Champion with this name Ivanov
  5. you always keep this link open and you don't need TV graphics they should also the NOC code or at least a flag near the name https://www.iwf.net/scoreboard/scoreboard3.php I didn't get it how much but those who are very expert in weightlifting can notice that by color of those weights on the barbel. that's how probably someone in the jury found out that. (who knows maybe that wasn't just a mistake !?? intentional maybe) one thing is for sure it was definitely not 104kg.
  6. yeah I remember that , and also North Korea didn't participate because of visa issues. so many countries won their first ever WL medal last year. that was a "special competition" specially for lighter divisions. which won't happen again. for example an average Iranian weightlifter Ali Hashemi won the gold medal at 105kg, with a record 13kg lower than 94kg gold medalist Moradi !
  7. This is most probably their first and last medal. and only because China didn't care about non-Olympic weights and didn't enter anybody. they should host the last year's competition if they wanted to win more medals this year is no joke. we were missing 9 (most of them strong) countries last year.
  8. unlucky for Turkmenistani weightlifter, she had to try her 2nd attempt "again" because the weight was wrong ! (whatever it was, it was good enough for silver medal) looks like someone got too much excited and forgot to load the correct weight no senior WR attempt , I know IWF set these records somehow "breakable" the last time they set World Standards nobody could even touch some of them for a while. imagine if we hadn't World Standards, almost every single attempt in group C or D was a "World Record attempt" I hope only few World Standards remain after this competition.
  9. the TV graphic shows a summary of what's happening , which is a good thing because mostly in middle of the competition you forget who is leading or things like that but then they show athletes with only 3 first letters of their names for example PAG is first, NGU second and ECH second and you have to know PAG means Pagliaro
  10. this explains why those 3 Iranian weightlifters were rejected by IWF. apparently they were not alone ! more than 70 weightlifters had the same problems ! https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1071531/more-than-70-athletes-barred-from-weightlifting-world-championships-in-ashgabat and as usual our federation president is first in useless protests https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1071698/iran-and-philippines-among-countries-to-express-reservations-about-adams-at-iwf-congress
  11. the final start list https://www.iwf.net/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2018/10/Start_Book_Ashgabat.pdf Ilya Ilyin is still there but apparently he is not going to actually lift anything here. and only 8 Iranians here. instead of 10 and those 3 weightlifters who were supposedly wasn't included in the original entry list are still absent. we will know the truth about it soon. but I believe our federation probably made a big big administrative mistake in registering them. interesting that Martirosyan put 440kg as entry ! which means he has to start at least with 420. he is either very dumb or in a very great shape. big challenge for Nurudinov. and guess who is back !!! Andrei Aramnau after 4 years ! out of our 8 weightlifters, one of them is in Group B. and from the rest I believe Moradi has a very good chance for the gold (unless he bombs out) Hashemi also will have a good chance for gold (or at least a medal) if Ilyin really doesn't show up.. in this weight Beiralvand has the 3rd entry behind Ilyin and Hashemi. still hard to believe he is a medal chance ! also a very slim chance for Barari. the rest are just here to make the numbers . one of the worst teams we sent in past few years. but at least most of them are young. and suppose to be talented. and this is one of the rare years in which we are not a medal chance in super heavyweight. last year we had 2 on the podium ... Salimi is retired now and Alihosseini is a bit injured and took a break. this is the list of weightlifters with the highest entry in each weight 55kg: OM Yun Chol, 285kg 61kg: QIN Fulin & MOSQUERA Francisco & THACH Kim Tuan, 310kg 67kg: CHEN Lijun, 330kg 73kg: SHI Zhiyong, 348kg 81kg: LYU Xiaojun & LI Dayin & ASAYONAK Petr & MAHMOUD Mohamed & KARAPETYAN Andranik, 370kg 89kg: KHADASEVICH Pavel, 373kg 96kg: MORADI Sohrab, 410kg 102kg: HASHEMI Ali & ILYIN Ilya, 400kg 109kg: MARTIROSYAN Simon, 440kg +109kg: TALAKHADZE Lasha, 460kg
  12. not a Danish group actually. but a terrorist group which exists in Denmark to me it just doesn't make sense. why Iran wanted to do such thing specially at this time, they know the current situation. this is probably, in a strategic sense, the worst time possible to conduct this sort of thing, those terrorist groups have no support inside Iran and it's not like the Iran regime is afraid of them. and beside that killing one person doesn't make a change. but then I know politics is too much complicated in Iran, it's possible that some of the more confrontational elements of the regime have been authorized to pull this stuff off to undermine the moderate elements, the current government. but even for them it doesn't make sense, specially right now.
  13. losing on purpose. doesn't make the weight intentionally. things like that. I mean they never officially say "I'm withdrawing because it's Israel" which they should do if they really believe in what they are doing and they should be proud and face the consequences but the thing is they don't really believe that. this is just a political play . nobody in Palestine never knows that some random Iranian athlete withdrew to "support the people of Palestine"
  14. as I said before they always have a legitimate excuse for that. the only time it got out of hands was World U23 Wrestling when Israeli wrestler beat the American wrestler surprisingly and Iran had to wrestle Russia at the same time on another mat and his coaches shout to him to "Alireza lose" that was something they couldn't deny. and Iran is not the only country with that policy, at least right now, you hear that about Iran only because Iran is more active in sports comparing to other Islamic countries with the same policy. there were some hope after that wrestling accident that they will change that policy. lots of talks and discussion that this is a useless strategy and we gain nothing from this but then again the man who has the ultimate word in Iran made it clear that nothing is going to change about this. personally I hated this since the first day. this is disgusting and shameful . athletes have to try the entire year for one important moment of their career and have to give up that because of stupid politics. I know 2-3 athletes that their careers got ruined only because they had to miss their golden opportunities. sometimes you can't get a second chance. I don't know whey everybody else is complaining, the only one should complain is Iranian athlete who forced to do something he probably doesn't want to do. for example the Israeli guy here most probably could not beat our World Champion here. Mollaei by withdrawing just awarded him an easy gold medal. another example Israel had won only one medal in history of World Taekwondo Championship. that's because Iranian athlete withdrew in quarterfinal and gave a free medal to Israel. if someone someday wants to withdraw against Iranian athletes. I'm totally fine with that and will take that medal. I would be OK with a temporary suspension if this could actually change something but since I know it doesn't , i prefer our athletes participate and just hope for a no-israel draw. at least for now. but I'm thinking what will happen if one day Israel qualifies for the FIFA World Cup and gets Iran in the group stage ! football is the only sport that "matters" in Iran. that might make a change but we will never know.
  15. looks like Ilyin is not going to actually participate in the competition. he is going to Turkmenistan just to register his name because of Olympic qualification process but it seems he is injured and will put a "no mark" there.
  16. here is the match, fake injury. that's a shame a World champion has to perform such a silly show. I read a comment from Mollaei himself he claimed he withdrew from the bronze medal match cuz he didn't want to see Iran's flag behind Israeli ! but I assume when you withdraw a match because of injury, they automatically won't let you compete in the repechage. right ? .
  17. Russia won the gold medal in 5 out of 6 Olympics weights. very impressive. and on Ozdeev only lost by caution to Basar. it could be 6 out of 6. we never had a country dominating Greco like this in past few years.
  18. never had to use the mouse scroll this much to find Iran in the medal table in a wrestling competition but at least I hope they learn from their mistakes and come back stronger next year which is also the Olympic qualifier. we lost so many close matches here . maybe next time we can win "some" of them. and we are supposed to have a better seeding system for 2019. this year draw was unbelievably one sided in most of weights.
  19. that was very smart. I guess you are the only person thinking about such idea and btw Iranians never withdraw "officially" for that reason. there is always a legitimate excuse . injuries, not making weight, etc. back in 2016 they didn't even send Alireza Khojasteh to Rio because there was an Israeli in his weight. (they did the same with Javad Mahjoub in 2012 London) and it doesn't change anything even if IOC bans Iran completely from the Olympics it will not change anything I assure you that. at least in near future nothing can force the Iranian officials for that. Judo is not even half important here. and as a sport fan obviously I hate mixing sports with politics. I always did and will always hate that. but Iranians are mostly "victims" of that. this year when Iran Volleyball NT had to go to USA for one of the weekends, US officials locked them down at the airport like prisoners for almost half a day. FIVB apologized Iran claiming they will investigate the accident , but what happened ? they awarded USA hosting the next 3 VNL finals. our football federation still can't get the money FIFA should pay them for 2014 World Cup because of the sanctions let alone 2018 World Cup. I stop here but I can give you 100 examples like this in different sports , in different ways they are mixing sports and politics.
  20. I also don't mind Estonia medal in any other sport and or even in wrestling by any other wrestler. just not this guy. I just can't stop myself disliking people getting what they don't deserve. in Nabi's case this is happening for him so many times. yeah he didn't let Kayaalp score, which is a big thing but he also didn't score himself. caution for both of them , Kayaalp was leading 1-1 and while both of them were doing nothing, they gave Kayaalp another passivity caution in last 40 seconds , gifting the match to Nabi. I know someone has to win in situations like this when they are doing nothing but Nabi was no way the "more active" wrestler. he is always "more passive"
  21. surprise surprise. no fishy call in the final. that was a real fight. in last 2 minutes I was expecting a caution and point for Lorincz but fortunately this time they let the better wrestler wins. and what Hungarian coach was thinking asking for that challenge in first period ? another free gift ?!
  22. well I hate to see the medals being decided outside the mat. that was indeed a 4pts throw in1st period. things would be different with a 4-1 on scoreboard. I give credit to the Swedish guy he was willing to take the risk. when you are losing it doesn't matter if it's by 1pt or 10. you have to take the risk. only if our wrestlers were as brave as him. now the last match, let's see what's their plan to give the gold to Lorincz. he should not be in the final in first place. Kim got robbed against him last night
  23. not really. most of Russian wrestlers faced brutal draw here. they were all well-prepared and deserved the gold medal. I think they got one or two dubious calls in freestyle but in Greco-Roman they were very very dominant. I'm sure I didn't mention Kudla here in this championship but yeah your memory works very well. I just hate wrestlers winning medal by doing NOTHING and just winning by cautions. Metehan Basar for sure and I can add Nemes to the list as well. he won last year title only by cautions if I'm not wrong he scored one "real" point in the whole competition ! and maybe the Norwegian guy Stig Andre Berge. and there was a guy from Denmark Mark Madsen. I assume he is retired now. but nobody is even close to Nabi for me. this guy won several medals by poor luck. I'm sure you guys think I'm exaggerating but if you watch his matches in youtube you won't find him executing a technique or something. he is a two time World Champion ! he is just hard to score on. that's the only thing I give him credit for.
  24. well, that was unexpected. so after all our Greco team won't go home completely "empty handed" no fun to win a medal by walkover but I'm sure Aliyari will take that. and interestingly I saw a bit of tear from our coach, he knows he will get crucified by media when the team comes back home. what a disaster
