  1. Greece using this event as internal Olympic qualification. Very controversial. Right now Mantis/Kagialis and Bozi/Klonaridou are leading, but the other Greek crews are close behind. I hope they hold on to their leads because it would be very unfair otherwise. Mantis/Kagialis were our best men's team from 2009-2012 but missed London because the federation selected another team. Then they won bronze in Rio. They were by far our best team 2017-2020 so it would be a crime if they don't get to go to Tokyo. Same thing with the women. Bozi/Klonaridou have been the best Greek team over the past four years and they deserve to go to Tokyo. Spanaki/Tsoulfa (the other team) shouldn't go. Tsoulfa won gold in Athens 2004 and retired soon afterwards and now I guess she came back. However I don't think it's fair to Bozi/Klonaridou who worked so hard and earned the quota place and deserve it.
  2. Papachristou only fifth in the end Very disappointing because I had high hopes for her. She won medals at the last four European Championships and since she is WL for 2021, I didn't expect her medal streak to end here in Torun, especially since she was so good in qualifying the other day also. However I must say it is okay to finish fifth in such a strong competition. Didn't expect this to be a strong year but all three medalists jumped over 14.50, first time that happened in any European Championship in more than a decade! Congratulations to all medalists. Sad to see Greece leave Torun with only one medal, first time since 2013 at any European Championships (indoor or outdoor) with so few medals but at least the medal we won was a gold which makes it better for us. Also Vasiliou and Zakka achieved new PBs which is a good sign, even though Vasiliou said she will retire after Tokyo, I hope she changes her mind. She is only 30 and really only made it to major competitions the last 4-5 years, before that she did nothing and she's at her peak now so why stop?!
  3. Papachristou 5th after four jumps. She is WL (14.60) this year so I really expected better from her. 14.31 not enough but usually it's good enough for a medal in the women's triple jump at the European level. Mamona with NR and German girl with huge PB though....wow. If Papachristou can jump close to 14.60 she should still win gold, but has to improve on these last two jumps.
  4. Eckhardt 14.52 in triple jump, wow, her previous PB was 14.17 only
  5. Very proud of Polak for finishing fifth. This was by far her best result ever in a big competition. She has improved a lot every year, and just a few weeks ago she achieved the qualifying standard for Tokyo (she also did it in the summer but it didn't count then). Unfortunately this was the first major competition since the 2014 World Indoors that we didn't win a medal in women's pole vault, and first since the 2013 World Championships that we didn't win a medal in either men's or women's pole vault. It is a shame that Kyriakopoulou is injured because this could've been a great chance for her to finally win gold after one silver and three bronze in the past. I hope Papachristou does well tomorrow. I expect her to win a medal, hopefully gold but we'll see...
  6. What happened in the women's pole vault? I saw Polak had three misses at 4.65 so I thought she was out and I turned it off, but now I see she's back and had XXO at that height. She was complaining to the officials and was showing them a video so maybe one of her misses didn't count?
  7. Gold medal and world leader despite a knee injury. Bravo MILTIADIS TENTOGLOU Third consecutive European gold medal at the men's level for the 22 year old (2018 European, 2019 European indoors, 2021 European indoors)
  8. Yes, WL but now he skipped the second and third jumps and Montler had 8.31, so I'm getting nervous...
  9. For swimming Ioannis Georgarakis will also be a part of the men's 4 x 100 freestyle relay team
  10. http://sportsfeed.gr/i-korakaki-simaioforos-stin-teleti-enarxis/ It's in Greek only
  11. Good result for Olympiacos yesterday to advance against PSV Next round against Arsenal. This is the 79634325157826th time that the two will face each other in a European competition in recent years
  12. Before it was just fake news, but now it is official that Anna Korakaki will be our flag bearer. It was announced today.
  13. Douvalidis announced today that he is injured and will not be going to Torun anymore. I was hoping he could do well, he was 5th in 2019...
  14. Team Greece 20 Athletes (9 M + 11 W) Men Ioannis Nyfantopoulos (60m) Konstantinos Zikos (60m) Andreas Dimitrakis (1500m) Konstantinos Douvalidis (60m Hurdles) Konstantinos Filippidis (Pole Vault) Alexandros Peristeris (Long Jump) Miltiadis Tentoglou (Long Jump) Nikolaos Andrikopoulos (Triple Jump) Dimitrios Tsiamis (Triple Jump) Women Maria Gatou (60m) Kiriaki Samani (60m) Rafailia Spanoudaki (60m) Irini Vasiliou (400m) Konstantina Giannopoulou (800m) Anastasia Marinakou (1500m) Elisavet Pesiridou (60m Hurdles) Ioanna Zakka (High Jump) Eleni Polak (Pole Vault) Spyridoula Karydi (Triple Jump) Paraskevi Papachristou (Triple Jump) I think our team is quite strong even though we are missing 5 other athletes that qualified, including a few who would've had good chances to win medals. Still, I think Tentoglou and Papachristou have very good chances to win medals and possibly even gold. Both are EL for this year and have been European champions in the past so that's why I say it. I also think Polak has a chance to win a medal. Possibly Zikos or Spanoudaki could surprise too. Filippidis and Tsiamis have won European medals before but I don't think they have any chances based on current form. I think we can leave Torun with 2-3 medals and I would be happy with that. Also disappointing to not have anyone in the men's high jump for Greece. We have two guys who won medals in this event at previous European Indoor Championships (Antonios Mastoras won silver in 2015 and Konstantinos Baniotis won silver in 2019). Mastoras hasn't competed since 2018 and Baniotis since 2020.
  15. My cousins in New York have hated him for years. They always knew he was a phony and now everyone else is starting to notice that too.
  16. Does this mean that the quota could only be won by an American NOC at the final qualification event, or it would be open to everyone?
  17. Thank you for that. Wow, I didn't know. Will be interesting to see what happens with Greece. We have already qualified in the women's pair, and have big chances to qualify in the men's and women's single sculls, as well as the women's lightweight double sculls. Too bad that we can only pick one crew, but hopefully the others can qualify in May in Lucerne. Anneta Kyridou would probably be chosen if she finishes first in the women's single sculls, as she won bronze at last year's European Championship as a 21 year old and also gold at the last two European U23 Championships and gold at the last World U23 Championships. However, she is currently involved in a highly publicized lawsuit against the federation so that might play a role and Stefanos Ntouskos could get chosen instead, which would also be a good choice.
  18. http://sportsfeed.gr/maxh-gia-th-1-olympiakh-thesi-sto-varese/ According to this article (in Greek), only countries with one or less quotas can gain quotas in Varese at the European qualifiers. This means that BLR, CRO, CZE, DEN, FRA, GER, GBR, ITA, IRL, LTU, NED, NOR, POL, ROU, ESP, and SUI all can't compete. Can somebody confirm this information? I am not sure how accurate it is. I knew that countries could only gain one quota from Varese, but I didn't know that already qualified countries with two or more crews can't compete.
  19. Katerina Stefanidi (silver 2015, gold 2017, outdoor silver 2014, outdoor gold 2016, outdoor gold 2018) and Nikoleta Kyriakopoulou (bronze 2017, outdoor bronze 2012, outdoor silver 2018) will both be missing the event in the women's pole vault. Maria Belibasaki (women's 400 m), Emmanouil Karalis (men's pole vault), and Nicholas Scarvelis (men's shot put) will all be skipping the event as well. All five of these athletes achieved the qualifying standard but will not be competing due to injuries or focusing on outdoor season.
  20. I agree, also tennis for sure Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari will qualify. Cycling I think we can get one in mountain biking, and shooting one more in men's skeet (Efthimios Mitas). Taekwondo we have Apostolos Telikostoglou who won silver in the 2019 World Championships and for the women Fani Tzeli who won bronze at the 2018 Youth Olympics, I think she has a better chance for 2024 though. Archery Evangelia Psarra will aim for her sixth consecutive Olympics but I'm not sure if she will be able to qualify. Boxing Nikoleta Pita is one win away from making it, as the tournament in London was underway already and I think Alexandros Tsanikidis can possibly make it. Wrestling the young Giorgos Pilidis has a chance too I believe. Will be difficult but not impossible.
  21. Thank you. So the alternate will be included in the team roster or no? Will they be able to play or only if someone gets injured? Do they get a medal?
