  1. Does anyone know when we will have a full list of rowers going to Tokyo and who gets selected? I wonder if there will be anyone born in the 2000s aside from our two Greek girls in the women's pair, Christina Bourmpou (2000) and Maria Kyridou (2001). They won the quota together as 18 year olds at the 2019 World Championships. I am curious to see if they will be the youngest rowers. Now that Foester failed to qualify I can't think of anyone else who is younger.
  2. I think that this is only our fifth gold ever at the European Championships (Grigoriadis won in 2008 and 2012, Drymonakos in 2008, and Vazaios in 2016)
  3. First since Andreas Vazaios in 2016 (men's 200 individual medley) Pretty sure this is the first gold medal ever for Greek women's swimming. I think we've done it at the junior level and in open water swimming but definitely not in the pool. Even better that this is an Olympic event too (100 butterfly). Women's swimming in our country has never been good, except for an occasional bronze or something at a European Championships once in a while. This is a big improvement. We've improved so much in swimming over the past 5-10 years even though it's been mostly men's swimming (Gkolomeev, Vazaios, Papastamos, Christou etc) Anna won bronze in this event at the 2019 short course Euros so I wasn't too surprised about the medal but gold, wow! So proud of her and she totally smashed her own NR.
  4. It would be reallocated back to Japan because they finished third in Lucerne? Would be crazy in that case. Foester could've qualified but she stopped rowing midway through the race (though the Japanese girl was actually doing way better than I expected and very well may have finished above Foester regardless)
  5. One of them just posted that he achieved the standard so I guess it counts. He was already qualified for two other events in Tokyo, so that's probably why they didn't make a big deal out of it.
  6. Thank you. Does it also count for an Olympic quota? None of the Greek sports sites mentioned that, they only talk about NR
  7. Crazy men's 4 x 100 freestyle relay final! NRs for 5 of the 8 countries. Congrats Our NR was 3:14.42 from 2016, now we got 3:13.39 and fifth place. Third European Championships in a row where we finished in the top 5. Hopefully in 2022 we can finally win a medal in this relay. We also set NRs today in men's 50m backstroke, men's 400m freestyle, and equaled NR in women's 100m butterfly. Hopefully tomorrow we will set new NRs in men's 50m backstroke and women's 100m butterfly again, and win medals in those events. Also our first relay swimmer in men's 4x100 freestyle broke the NR in men's 100m freestyle. Not sure if that is official because it was in the relay. It's good enough for OQT for Tokyo (48.39 and the OQT is 48.57).
  8. So proud of Anneta Kyridou She dominated the women's single sculls. She has been through so much over the past five years and especially after the last two years. She never gave up though. Pausing her education to fully focus on training, her mother getting cancer, fainting at a training camp, filing a lawsuit against the federation, switching from W2X to LW2X to W1X within the past 20 months, and making it to the Olympics at just 22 years old in a difficult event. She didn't get the chance to qualify at the 2019 World Championships because her partner in W2X got injured at the last moment, and then at the European Qualifying Regatta last month she fell into the water a few minutes before the race. This was basically her one chance to qualify and she did amazing. Greece now being represented in Tokyo in the women's single sculls for the first time since 1996 I think.
  9. Miltiadis Tentoglou (the guy who always wins European gold in long jump) ran 100m today in 10.70 seconds
  10. Tsitsipas always losing these long matches on clay. Barcelona final vs Nadal, Rome today vs Djokovic. Also two years ago Roland Garros vs Wawrinka. He needs to finish these matches off.
  11. Good start for Kyridou and she's into the final. Looks like she will be our only boat with a real chance to qualify from this regatta. Anastasiadou/Fitsiou just simply not good enough it seems. They missed their chance at the European Qualification Regatta. They needed to finish first and were second behind Russia, despite finishing above Russia in the heats. Anastasiadou still has a bright future and I'm positive that as long as she sticks with the sport (not always certain with these Greek rowers), she'll be in Paris 2024. She is still just 19. I hope for the rest of this year she can continue to work hard, probably compete in LW1X and defend her gold at the European U23s and hopefully also win a gold at the World U23s. Similar story with Kalandaridis/Papakonstantinou. Doesn't look like they can qualify here but they're both still young and hopefully can make it to Paris. Papakonstantinou I expect to win medals at the upcoming U23 championships as well, which shouldn't be surprising because he has won a bunch in the past and this is his last year in that age group.
  12. Agree with this. Looking up old results was so much easier with the old site. Now everything is out of order and often doesn't even work
  13. Can you please send me a link to these seeding lists? I can't find them. Thanks.
  14. Diana can definitely qualify. If you read the other part of my post I said Diana still has a good chance. I never wrote her off, but I don't think she's a sure bet to make it to Tokyo. I am not anti-Ukraine. I wish your country all the best for the Olympics
  15. Very surprising how many people are choosing Dymchenko over Kyridou and Foester. Probably because she finished 12th at the 2019 Worlds (where Kyridou and Foester didn't compete) and 6th at the 2021 Europeans (where Kyridou and Foester didn't make Final A because they had an extremely tough draw). Dymchenko finished extremely far behind the rest of the field at the 2021 Europeans and didn't make Final A at the 2020 Europeans. With all due respect, she only made Final A at the 2021 Europeans because she was in the easier semifinal and on top of that, two of the boats there didn't race so there were only four boats in that semifinal. I'm not saying Dymchenko will definitely finish below Kyridou and Foester, but I don't think Dymchenko is a sure bet to qualify like people are making her out to be.
  16. The Alexandri triplets are really Greek, they were former members of the Greek national team and they moved to Austria as teenagers. They got to compete for their new country in Rio 2016, whereas they probably wouldn't have had the chance to make it for Greece as we had better athletes in this sport. Now they improved a lot while most of their Greek peers have already retired from the sport it seems.
  17. Three medals for Greece here is great (really five medals because the Austrian girls are Greek ) Our chances seem good for Tokyo. We will 90% qualify in duet, and I think our team showed that they are the favourites to get the last spot over France.
  18. Greek team W1X: Anneta Kyridou Our best chance to qualify. She won bronze at last year's European Championships in this event, and also won gold in this event at the European U23 Championships in 2019 and 2020. She also won a lot of other medals, including gold in W2X at the 2019 World U23 Championships. LW2X: Evangelia Anastasiadou and Zoi Fitsiou They have an outside chance to qualify but I don't expect it at this point. Anastasiadou is a big talent, she won gold last year in LW1X at the European U23 Championships as an 18 year old. Individually her times are much better than Fitsiou. If Nikolaidou (former world champion in LW1X, 4th place in Rio 2016 in W2X) wasn't injured then her and Anastasiadou would have a really great chance to qualify. Hopefully Anastasiadou can continue to improve and then Anastasiadou/Nikolaidou could even contend for a medal in Paris 2024. M2X: Ioannis Kalandaridis and Antonios Papakonstantinou Not sure what to expect from them. It is their first time together. Kalandaridis until last month was competing in M2- and Papakonstantinou in LM2X. Both were clearly better than their partners so I guess they decided to combine and try to qualify. Both have won a bunch of medals in U23 and junior competitions. Kalandaridis even has two gold medals in World Championships (M2- at the Juniors in 2016 and M2X at the U23 in 2018). So far we only have two boats qualified, M1X and W2-. Very small team for us compared to other years (Rio 2016: W2X, M4-, LM4-, London 2012: LW2X, LM2X, M2-, M4-, Beijing 2008: M1X, LM2X, LW2X). Stefanos Ntouskos (M1X) is our only rower returning from Rio (he competed in LM4- there as a 19 year old). EDIT-Big shame for Greece to not even try to qualify in W2X. In Rio 2016 we had Asoumanaki/Nikolaidou (19 and 23 years old) finish fourth in the event. They won silver at the 2015 World Championships also. Then we had in 2019, Kyridou/Tsamopoulou win gold at the World U23 Championships but then Tsamopoulou got injured and couldn't compete at the senior World Championships. Even last year we had girls finish 4th at the European U23 (Christodoulidis/Theochari, and Theochari was still a junior but competed in U23) and bronze at the European Junior (Fragkou/Natsioula). Between all of these girls, you'd think we would at least try to qualify a boat.
  19. For W1X, I think the three main favourites are . I'd say also has a chance. not even competing in this event. For M1X, I think should qualify. Second spot seems open but I'd be shocked if make it. For W2-, I think will 99% qualify, and then probably one of as well.
  20. It's sad that men's 50km and 20km walks are on the same day
  21. http://sportsfeed.gr/albstadt-2021-entos-prokrishs-h-ethniki/ This article says that the new rankings will be: 19. Greece - 2601 20. Hungary - 2514 21. Slovakia - 2446 -------------------- 22. Romania - 2398 23. Israel - 2392 24. Australia - 2383 25. Japan - 2120 So countries 19-21 stayed the same but other countries closed the gap
  22. Another dangerous situation created by China...
  23. I agree, especially since we combine the Americas. It is ridiculous that Australia gets so many teams in team sports without having to do anything, and then European qualification is so difficult. Greece 2009-12 had an amazing Olympic cycle in women's water polo. 2009 we were 4th at World Championships, 2010 we were 2nd at European Championships, 2011 we won the World Championships and 2012 we were 2nd again at European Championships. But we didn't qualify for London. So unfair.
