I may be overtired but I found the encouragement from his coach and Margelidon's hug of his opponent at the end incredibly moving.

I really hope the 4th place lit a fire for the Canadian men - they were right there with all the other teams. I hate finishing 4th but the two 4th place finishes give me a lot of hope.

I have to say the three womens foil fencers did better than I was expecting today. A win in this round would have been amazing, but hopefully it means we can do well in the team event.

I don't know anything about Taekwondo tbh but I would think that she does.

Canada did win 8 medals at the 2019 World Championships including 2 that were not included in the Sports Illustrated predictions (plus 1 from 2017). It’s on the high side for predictions but not impossible. I would be shocked if we got the mixed medley medal that’s predicted. I would also be surprised if Canada won 7 medals and Pickrem didn’t win any.

This seems oddly typical for the Canadian team to finish one spot out of the elimination round ? Best of luck to Duenas and Barrett In the individual events, Duenas seems to often do better in the ranking than the elimination round at the Olympics so maybe this will go better this time.

To be fair I only looked into it recently because I realized the same thing. I never expected this either!

She's absolutely a gold medal possibility. In April she won the Pan American Championship by 6kg against the Colombian athlete who is the top ranked athlete in this weightclass.
