  1. Today is our national holiday, St.Patrick’s Day. Each city, town and village will have their own parade today to celebrate. I will be going to my local parade at 3pm The Dublin City parade is starting now if anyone is interested to watch: https://www.rte.ie/player/onnow/66546216066
  2. Having a look through the schedule here is some of the big days for Team Ireland Included a few outside chances here that probably unlikely to medal but not without some realistic chance. On the otherhand I have not included outside chances that may yet come to fruition, for example boxing could have more chances when the team is finalised, men's road race cycling and other outside chances in equestrian (individual jumping). Overall it looks most likely we will win our first medal on Day 4 or 5 and then with a lot of chances coming on the middle weekend. Our first gold could possibly be on Day 7 in the men's lightweight double sculls. 4. A quick Google search says he was banned for 4 years and 3 months from February 28th, 2020, so assuming his ban ends at the end of May of this year. The qualification period runs until June 23rd so theoretically he could qualify but it is beyond unlikely to be honest.
  5. Mr.Bach won’t like that. It doesn’t meet the youth and urban agenda.
  6. Parkinson's Law..... work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion
  7. Nice to see the flags making prominent appearances throughout the championship. Too bad those flags were hanging in the stands rather than being paraded around the track in celebration
  8. McDonagh was 5-0 winner over in the men’s 92kg+
  9. It’s also one of the few national flags with the colour purple on it
  10. I have my final 15, just need to finalise the order now. I think it's pretty stable but there might be some shifts in position so will give it another listen or two before submitting my votes.
  11. Is this official? Can you post a source for this, just want to update the qualification tracker
  12. Yes, an "AND" statement would make much more sense. In that case it would be like my 2) scenario in my earlier post. No athletes who have already participated in 2 Olympics can claim a universality quota. And also those over the age of 30 are likewise not eligible. So for now without clarification it's not certain what way to interpret this
  13. World Aquatics seems to imply the opposite in their website so it almost seems like they can compete in more than 2 Olympics if they are under the age of 30.
  14. Never ceases to amaze me how every Olympics you get these badly-worded qualification documents. It's really not that hard to specify the rules clearly, at least employ someone who can do a better job
  15. There is also the following rule concerning athletes entering through a Universality place: "An athlete entering through Universality will be limited to a maximum of up to two Olympic Games in his/her career provided the athlete is not older than the age of thirty (30) as of 31st December 2024". The wording is a bit unclear, does it mean that..... 1) an athlete entering via Universality can participate in more than 2 Olympic Games so long as they are not older than 30 years old at 31st December 2024? 2) Or does it mean that no athletes over 30 years of age can claim a universality quota AND no athlete can claim a universality quota if they have already participated at 2 Olympic Games? Does anyone know how to interpret this rule? If it's 2) then the following athletes/nations are ineligible for a universality quota: Amel Melih (W) Talita Te Flan (W) Farida Osman (W) Refiloe Chopho (W) Jinq En Phee (W) Nada Arakji (W) JL Harding-Marlin (W) Cherelle Thompson (W)
  16. Ok I’ll count them as +2 quotas for each of the relays for now and we can revise them later when things become clearer
  17. I've a lot of updating to do on the qualification tracker! I am assuming I should go ahead and count the swim relay quotas for now and revise it if we don't qualify the requisite number of individual athletes to make up the relay squads. Would you all agree? The women's medley relay squad already have 2 qualified athletes so they should be good anyway. I think the men's will be fine also but we might have to sweat it out to see if a couple of our guys will be high enough up the rankings to receive invitations in their individual events.
  18. I've been daring to believe Wiffen could do something big in Paris for a couple of years now but this is really beyond my wildest dreams. Hopefully he can replicate his performances here in Paris but I imagine the opposition will be even stiffer there. Still though, going to celebrate this remarkable achievement for what it is.... 2 gold medals is insane
  19. First ever at the world championships yes Wiffen finished 4th in both 800m and 1500m last year. Hoping he can bring home another medal in the 1500m.
  20. I love the concept of this. Just wish the design was bit more polished. A circular pieces of iron in the middle might have looked neater. But really nice idea all the same
