  1. Good idea. Knowing @Dragon‘s extensive knowledge, we will be asked if we know the middle name of the paternal grandfather of the gold medal winning captain in men’s water polo at the 1920 Olympics
  2. Sounds good, what do you have in mind
  3. That's awesome! Do you think you might study creative writing?
  4. I sure have... I read it at uni as part of my studies. Nice to know you have read it...part of your studies?
  5. No, it's the opposite. On current trends, Catholics are predicted to outnumber Protestants in Northern Ireland by 2021. At the most recent census in 2011, 48% identified as Protestant vs 45% who identified as Catholic. And in terms of Ulster then, there is a comfortable Catholic majority, since 3 counties in the Republic (Donegal, Cavan and Monaghan) are predominantly Catholic. And yes, Derry vs Londonderry is still and probably always will be a thing. The media tend to be diplomatic by referring to it as Derry-Londonderry, which is just stupid though. And yes, I go to Derry regularly as I live only about 25-30 minutes away from the city Is this still the golf thread?
  6. I must say that Ulster ≠ Northern Ireland though. I know a lot of people think that but it's not the case. I am from Ulster for example but I am from the Republic of Ireland.
  7. Shane received huge support all week from the crowd. The cheers he received on each tee and on each good shot was really something awesome. Golf is very much an all-Ireland oriented sport so everyone supports everyone and also the fact that the Golfing Union of Ireland is the governing body of amateur golf across the whole island (Northern Ireland and the Republic). So all these top golfers on the island grew up playing for Ireland. But to give a real context, this is one of the few times you could feel safe to fly an Irish flag in this particular area of Northern Ireland I went to the stage of the Giro d’Italia that was hosted here a couple of years ago in this area and let’s just say, I would not have been able to wave my Irish flag . I instead brought a Donegal flag to support local rider Philip Deignan. Even that got some “strange” looks
  8. Has the parade of nations been on yet?
  9. This is an amazing moment for Irish sport.... Shane Lowry wins the Open!!! 4 different Irish players won the Open since 2007 (Harrington winning twice, 2007 and 2008, Darren Clarke 2011, Rory McIlroy 2014 and now Shane Lowry 2019).
  10. Same, always look forward to them. Sydney 2000 intro is great too.
  11. No I get that. But just wanted to share what my favourite intro is. I like this one because of the dramatic music and is why i love the Lillehammer one. I like ones with catchy music too, like London 2012 Paralympics and Singapore YOG 2010. And it's nice when they feature clips of the sports being presented against the backdrop of the host city.
  12. Lillehammer 1994 is so good! Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games and London 2012 Paralympics are great too, still remember the music for each. Rio 2016 Paralympics one was quite good too. My favourite broadcast intro is the BBC London 2012 into.... the dramatic music is magnificent and exactly what an Olympic intro should be all about...brings back so many good memories. Long version:
  13. 4th, 4th and 5th place tonight for 3 medal hopefuls.... that's tough
  14. Sexton completely blew it. And he won't get a chance to rectify it as he is moving to a rugby career after these championships.
  15. 14.00m for Karydi in the triple jump! Impressive!!
  16. Thats wonderful news!
  17. How are they doing?
  18. Overall it’s been a disappointing tournament. Not much skill or excitement which we used to see a lot in the Africa Cup of Nations in the early 2000s which was when I first watched these tournaments. Madagascar were a nice exception though, nice to be able to cheer them on in their fairytale journey.
  19. Cats, it’s a musical that’s been running on the West End and Broadway since what seems like forever.
  20. Yes, pass our American friend the bottle, he needs it for the shock!
  21. The lemonade will be flowing
  22. Gold for Italy in the men’s and women’s 100m!
