  1. They are going to be in a battle to make it to the Nations Cup Final, which is an Olympic qualifier. Ireland and Germany too didn't have a good first outing and with Italy getting a good result here, it's going to be a scrap to make it.
  2. How did the British team do?
  3. The commentator in the above stream seems to be on some kind of strike. Only commentating after a penalty or a score
  4. For the Irish choice, I would have a few candidates to consider.... Natalya Coyle - Modern Pentathlon: Tokyo 2020 would be her 3rd Olympic Games. She finished in the top 10 on the previous 2 occasions and has been a wonderful servant not only for Irish Modern Pentathlon, but for Irish sport in general. She always has a positive outlook and is always supportive of her team mates across all sports throughout the year. O'Donovan brothers - Rowing: While it would be hard to choose one over the other to fly the flag, perhaps they could have a joint effort in the Opening Ceremony. The O'Donovans have been a breath of fresh air since breaking onto the scene at the last Olympics and they are loved by the Irish public. They have inspired a new generation of Irish rowers and raised the profile of the sport in the country. Gold medallists at the 2018 World Championships as well as silver at the Olympics in 2016 means they would be totally deserving in every aspect to fly the tricolour. Thomas Barr - Athletics: 4th place at the Rio Olympic Games in the men's 400m Hurdles. A true gent and one of the nice guys of athletics. He makes time for everyone and gives so much back to the sport. He always produces his best when it matters and I would love to see him honoured like this, especially after narrowly missing that Olympic podium in Rio. Ciara Mageean - Athletics: Another athlete who is one of the most down-to-earth, nice people you could meet, always giving back to the sport. No one loves her country more than Ciara and she exudes this in every interview I have seen her give. She has had more than her fair share of ups and downs over the course of her career and it would be a thoroughly deserving choice if she was given the honour. Rhys McClenaghan - Artistic Gymnastics: European Champion 2018. Rhys has put Ireland on the map in gymnastics. Never before have we had a world-class gymnast who will be capable of going all the way in the men's pommel in Tokyo. Never one to shy away from competition or the spotlight, would be a really nice touch to see him walk into the stadium, leading the Irish team. Rory McIlroy - Golf: More the X-Factor choice than anything else. He would generate a lot of attention and maybe help raise the public interest in the Games. Also, he received a lot of criticism for right or for wrong after the last Olympic campaign where he pulled out before the Games and later said he would not be watching much of the Olympics. I guess you can say he has matured a lot but I think this would be a very controversial choice nonetheless. However, it would be inspiring for some of the young athletes in particular to be marching behind on the same team as one of the big sporting icons. Judy Reynolds - Dressage: Judy has raised the profile of Irish dressage which has been almost non-existant or on the margins for most of our history. Along with Vancouver K, she has put Ireland on the map in dressage, finishing in 4th place at the World Cup Finals in 2017 and would be deserving of the honour of flying the Irish flag in Tokyo. Kellie Harrington - Boxing: 2018 World champion in women's lightweight division. For so many years she has been in the shadow of Ireland's great heroine, Katie Taylor. She is coming into her own at last and as a heroine of the working class Dublin community and demonstrating the potential of sport to change lives, it would be a worthy choice to have Kellie as the flagbearer. My choice. I am really torn, I would love Natalya to be given the honour as she has been a magnificent servant of Irish sport over the years, not always getting the recognition she deserves, competing in a minor sport such as Modern Pentathlon. However, my pick goes to the young and charismatic gymnast, Rhys McClenaghan. He is our first-ever world-class gymnast and a huge inspiration for the next generation of up and coming Irish gymnasts. And I can imagine the pride in his face when walking into the stadium and I think it would be a really nice moment for someone so young, yet sure of his abilities.
  5. As the title says, if it were your choice, who would you like to see as your nation's flagbearer at the Opening Ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. It might be the athlete you consider to be your number 1 hope of medal success, an inspiring individual with an interesting story or a long-term servant of the Olympic squad. Maybe even someone who would raise the profile of a minority sport in your nation. So who gets your pick?
  6. What a match between Tsitsipas and Wawrinka. Tsitsipas losing his shit towards the end of the 2nd set and calling his Dad an uninspirational zombie and to leave the stadium was hilarious
  7. Pity about all those deleted posts on TISC

  9. Another exciting prospect for Irish rowing in the lightweight men's double. We have the O'Donovan brothers and now we have the McCarthy twins in the same event. They finished in 5th place today in their first major regatta and at 22-years-of-age should improve a lot in the coming years.
  10. Not sure but I know for the Rugby World Cup, Guatemala were in the South American qualifying.
  11. The Drake curse strikes again
  12. Gold for Sanita and a ER
  13. In one day cricket though, any team could have a really bad day on the field or a batting collapse.... every team has had them and will continue to have them.
  14. Totallympics International Song Contest: Questionnaire There are 2 questions on the ballot paper this time. The first deals with the length of time allocated for registration, voting and preparation and the second asks whether users would like to see a special once-off event take place this summer to celebrate TISC. Voting closes Sunday 9th June, 2019, 21:00 GMT. ******************** Question 1: Should the registration, voting and preparation periods for TISC be reduced as follows in order to shorten the length of time it takes to complete a TISC edition: Maximum of 2 weeks for registration Maximum of 2 weeks for voting (a maximum 3 days of which will be allocated to the host to cast their votes) Maximum of 2 weeks for preparation (a) Yes, I agree with these changes (b) No, I do not agree to these changes Question 2: Should we hold a once-off summer festival for TISC this year (most likely involving nations who are not represented at TISC or some other variation on the usual TISC model)? (a) Yes (b) No

  17. Anyone who says sevens is better than XV is not a rugby fan
  18. You forgot to tag me on the list and I did not remember to enter.
  19. I do like the idea of getting to hear songs from obscure nations or even nations that are unrepresented at TISC. That was always the idea behind the Festival of Music. I guess something like this is possible if there is the right criteria involved. For example, it might be a good idea to limit the tour to nations that did not have a TISC representative. And maybe to follow the same rules as TISC Annual (only songs in the last 12 months), so that if a user suddenly appears from that nation and registers in TISC, they still have the chance to choose whatever entry from their nation they wish. We won't have used up one of their picks. Maybe there could be a different voting style instead of the traditional 1-12 points (probably necessary anyway for continents such as South America where there won't be a lot of nations). Also it would probably be best if it was a once-off event, for that same reason that we don't want to exhaust the future song choices of those unregistered nations and I know from previous votes, there is not a big appetite for more than 2 TISCs a year (even if this would be a more laid-back sort of contest). Does anyone else have any opinions on the suggestion put forward by @thiago_simoes ? We could put it to a vote later in the week also to see if users would like to see this.
  20. Totallympics International Song Contest - Announcements: A couple of important announcements to be made in the world of TISC today. The first announcement relates to the length of time it takes between the date the TISC thread opens and the day of the Grand Final. I think it is fair to say that some momentum is being lost from the time songs are selected and voted upon until we get to the Grand Final. Therefore, I think a reduction in the length of time for the registration period, voting period and more importantly, a reduction in the length of time between the date the voting closes and the Grand Final would be beneficial. The reductions won't be anything drastic, but if it cuts maybe 2 weeks off the overall period of time, it may allow for a more dynamic process and hopefully will keep interest in the thread at a consistent level throughout. The current rules state the following: Perhaps we should reduce the period of registration time to 2 weeks and keep the voting window at 2 weeks. Meaning we have 4 weeks given in total to registration and voting? There would still be a couple of days given to the host to cast their votes in between both windows, but this might help keep the momentum right through the process. Also, I would recommend then to have the Grand Final no more than 2 weeks after the voting window closes. Obviously if the host needs more time then we will allow that, just like we always do, but that would be the recommendation. Any thoughts on this? I will conduct a vote on this proposal in the next week so if there are any suggestions, please feel free to write them so we can include them there. Secondly, and more importantly, the host of the next TISC Annual in 2020 has now been settled. Ladies and Gentlemen I am happy to announce that @heywoodu has agreed to take on the hosting duties after his runner-up finish at TISC Annual 2019. Therefore get your tickets booked, for TISC 2020 we are making our way to the Netherlands Netherlands 2020
  21. Things are looking good in my constituency for my candidates I cast my preferential votes for (Carthy, McHugh and Flanagan). Looks like all 3 will win a seat in the EU parliament Also, delighted with the new "green wave" that appears to be sweeping Ireland. The Green Party looks set to win a seat in all 3 of the EU constituencies which could help sway the balance of power in the EU parliament. Very happy with the first tally figures
  22. Sadly yes, that’s why I am voting on green policies
