  1. So this is what it feels like to be Canadian, huh? 4th again
  2. Scores in group games; Wins by 6 - once Wins by 5 - six times Wins by 4 - twice Wins by 3 - once Wins by 2 - twice wins by 1 - none A huge gap between the top 4 and the others (and top 3 in reality as Germany beat England 5-0 too)
  3. Felt Gardiner’s hamstring pop myself. Ouch
  4. I really love the fastest loser “cube”. I know it’s just for TV but highs and lows on show Still happy that none available for the distance races but it’s great TV for the shorter races
  5. Just to confirm that Emily Hegarty is still injured. Puspure was supposed to be part of the sweep crew earlier in the year but was injured herself Tara Hanlon is the one to miss out with the emergence of Bergin and Magner
  6. I love seeing athletes happy with their result. For some it’s gold, for some it’s a medal but both of these women are delighted to make the final. Great to see
  7. I feel like many here *vastly* over estimate their countries chances before the games/events, so when they don’t reach those unrealistic projections, it feels like a disappointment to the posters
  8. Kinda refreshing tbh. If she ran under 50s 4 months after giving birth, there’d have been more questions than answers!
  9. It’s the team mates of Bol I feel sorry for. They all did their job to perfection
  10. Very successful morning for mixed relay makes the final 2 1,500m make the semis. The other gets a huge PB and an Olympic qualifying time A PB and SB in heptathlon
  11. 2 qualifiers in a matter of minutes there. Finn Lynch in sailing, Sophie O’Sullivan in athletics
  12. The opening heat in every middle distance race was always slow, and the last heat would gobble up all the fastest loser spots. This new system is a huge, huge improvement
  13. Every second thread here is someone looking to get rid of an established Olympic sport, or complaining that an established Olympic sport is under threat 😂
  14. Well got the start they wanted with our 3 Olympians winning gold with Wiffen being the highlight. Himself and McSharry are starting to get a profile among the general sporting public so to that end, all medals are good
  15. Strange competition to introduce. Ireland will have its three Olympic qualified swimmers at it as it’s their home event, but they aimed for the world champs so will be interesting to see what shape they’re in. Wiffen will be disappointed if he doesn’t win two gold anyway
  16. The biggest ever Irish team (23, could rise) has been announced. Our last 3 medals have been in walking and we've never had a bronze medal. 4 gold, 2 silver Adeleke and Mageean can win medals if they have the race of their lives and others don't. https://www.athleticsireland.ie/news/world-athletics-championships-selections
  17. Pretty much on par performance for the Italian women’s pursuit this year though. They’re a good bit behind GB, France and Germany in Europe alone The top 9 today (including in 9th) are all pretty much guaranteed Olympic qualification now IMO
  18. This is all pretty weird Canada is selecting athletes who aren’t qualified (or close to qualifying) GB aren’t selecting athletes who are qualified
  19. Far from lowering costs, football is a HUGE revenue generator for the Olympics. All stadia are already there and ticket sales far, far exceed any costs associated with staging the games Its not going anywhere
  20. I think the women are safe. They’ve a 3s cushion. The men’s relay was super tight. There’ll be teams gunning for that next year I think Wiffen gets a medal. Fingers crossed
  21. Weird seeing a race won without a world record now France ahead of the US in the medals table (for now)
