  6. Canoeing and sailing at least have the ability to be shrunk (and in canoeing's case able to drop slalom). Modern pentathlon can't shrink without disappearing.
  7. It's still impressive how three men dominated singles for so long. We've had 74 grand slam tournaments since Federer won his first (2003 Wimbledon) and the breakdown is... Nadal - 21 Djokovic - 20 Federer - 20 Everyone else - 13 between 9 players In the everyone else category, three of them happened during the first two years (2003-2005) and two happened in the last two years. Makes you think what could have been had the three not existed. Would Murray or Wawrinka have won double digit grand slams or would the winners been as varied as the women's (minus Serena Williams)
  8. Not sure, the IIHF essentially removed them and re-juggled Division 1. They also have to decide on how to handled the withdrawn teams in the lower divisions. The fairest thing would probably be to reintroduce them in Division 1A and for the withdrawn teams back to their old divisions, but Russia does have a lot of clout. We could see a scenario where 18 teams compete at the world champs and then either four get relegated or two get relegated, but none get promoted.
  9. Interesting, I always thought that if Russia stopped the invasion before the end of 2022 (probably more hopeful than realistic), they would be brought back for the 2023 sporting season in which case this decision would be a bit premature. If the other summer sports follow through with the same plan then it'll have a lot of implications for qualification to the 2024 Olympics.
  10. With two legs remaining here's what the relegation standings look like (bottom 2 get relegated) - 38 points - 37 points - 32 points - 31 points - 25 points Spain, Samoa and New Zealand can mathematically still be relegated, but it'll be highly unlikely. Things look pretty bad for Japan, they pretty much need to advance to the cup quarters in at least one event to have a chance. While on paper Kenya has a nice lead, their recent performances is a bit concerning. If they pick up 1 point in both of the legs things could be a bit tense for them.
  11. They were punching above their weight so I'm not too upset
  12. Not too surprising, esports has a huge following. There's a reason why the IOC looks at it every now and then despite the relative lack of physical activity.
  13. Losing to Spain and Scotland beating Kenya was worse. Makes the match against Wales all the more important to avoid relegation. If Argentina beats Ireland, they will move up to first in the standings.

  16. June 12th 2023, assuming the cut-off dates don't change.
  17. They have also changed the Davis Cup/Billie Jean Cup requirements, now they only need to participate twice (or have a good reason why not) to be eligible. Also no European/Oceania quota (one went to the host and the other went to the Grand Slam/Olympic medalist quota). Also for the remaining continental quotas the ranking limit has been increased to 400 (was 300 for 2020).
  18. She's quite capable in defeating Klimkait on any given day. Going up or down a weightclass isn't easy either plus the -63kg also has a great athlete while the -52kg has her sister
  19. Both events will be Olympic events so that's good to hear.

  23. Sometimes all it takes is one fan of the sport to be in the broadcasting management team.
  24. Good thing for Switzerland that the first Olympic qualifier will be here in a few months.
  25. Boxing as a sport has too much support, it would be like trying to get rid of gymnastics, I just don't see it happening. At best the IOC would just recognize someone else as the true boxing federation.
