  1. In terms of total medals, this will be Russia best performance as an independent nation outside of 2014 where they were the host nation. Like Canada, the issue is Russia has been having difficulty converting their medals into gold.
  2. In the end China performed similarly to South Korea at the Olympics so I would say the disaster was avoided.
  3. The main medal focus today will be in short track where Canada will hope to secure medals in the final two events. Men's freestyle slopestyle is another event to watch. Big day for our team events. The women's curling team needs to win both of their matches while the men's ice hockey team faces Sweden in the quarterfinals. In terms of keeping pace with my medal prediction, one medal might suffice, but then we need to win all of our team games, if not we probably need both short track medals.
  4. Final Thoughts Good news is we won our second gold medal and two medals overall. Bad news, that's just about all we did today. An overall poor day in freestyle skiing and our men's curling team lost to Russia, though are still alive. Canada won over China in men's ice hockey, not in a convincing fashion, but they are probably thinking about the game tomorrow. Also a shout-out to the men's biathlon relay for finishing 6th
  5. Canada still controls its destiny, but they will need to beat Great Britain to qualify to the semis. If they lose we'll need favourable results in the Russia/Switzerland/United States games.
  6. It's easy to call for a boycott when it isn't your Olympic performance on the line. Only way it would work is if you get a large majority of athletes to agree to it, including almost all of the top athletes ( )
  7. Just make the event have two rounds, a time trial round where athletes go in reverse world ranking order every 5 or so seconds at a time and the fastest 60 athletes based on their time qualify to the final where their start time is based off the difference from the time trial winner.
  8. Won't 13th place take her place or will they only compete with 11 people?
  9. A potential big day for Canada, it's been five days since we last won multiple medals in one day. If we want to maintain pace for a decent performance we pretty much need to win at least two today. Our best chances will be in men's big air snowboard and women's speed skating team pursuit. Women's big air snowboard has a decent chance and I would keep an eye on the women's freestyle slopestyle and the 2-man bobsled despite our day 1 performance. The women's singles figure skating starts today, but with all the Russians competing it will be difficult for our athlete to medal. Our men's ice hockey team has a rematch against China to enter the quarterfinals, winner faces Sweden. Big day for our men's curling team, they can qualify for the semis if they win both games (the match against Russia is pretty much a must-win, especially if Switzerland defeats the United States)
  10. Final Thoughts Overall an okay day for Canada, we won one medal, but most of the other sports had decent performances in their qualifying rounds, with the exception of 2-man bobsled. We are still in contention for a bronze, but something needs to change for us to have a legit chance. Unsurprisingly, we are in the finals for women's ice hockey. The curling teams had a good day, winning all of their matches, but things are still tight. The men could lose one more match as long as it's not to ROC or else things get very complicated while the women need to win all three of their matches or require many results to go their way.
  11. They might once everything is settled. Definitely not before the closing ceremony though.
  12. Canada may be the favourite, but defensively we haven't been the greatest which the United States could exploit to win.
  13. They could make it a four-person event and force each sled to have 2 men and 2 women and then add men's monobob (or remove women's monobob) The good news is bobsled can probably stay under the radar until Luge/Nordic Combined/Ski Jumping have an even amount of events so hopefully by then the federation would have enough time to establish four-woman.
  14. Thanks to yesterday's snowstorm, only four medals up for grab today. We are in a great position to win a medal in women's monobob and have an outside chance in women's aerials. The day is still eventful as it has the beginning stages for 2-men bobsled, women's slopestyle and both men's and women's snowboard big air along with the women's ice hockey semi-final.
  15. Yeah, I imagine "what to do with a DNF" must be in the rule book so the confusion wouldn't have taken that long. A protest was more likely.
  16. It happened in 2018 in the women's relay. Funny enough, bronze medalist Netherlands set a world record in the B Final.
  17. I'm afraid the IOC will let her compete and then disqualify her later, if necessary. There isn't much time for them to come up with an outcome before the women's singles
  18. Final Thoughts Canada won one medal today in short track, shame it wasn't two, but that's the nature of the sport. I was sort of hoping we could reach the semis in the men's team pursuit, but given Canada's earlier performances it would have been difficult to medal. I think our women's curling team is done while the men's are still in it. We are second in women's monobob, hoping for a medal tomorrow. Our men's ice hockey team finished 5th overall and will play China again. After that our opponent will be Sweden. At least we avoided Finland and Russia, but Sweden and the United States will not be easy games.
  19. Yes, they only do one race. Hope we can convert more South American roller skaters into speed skaters
  20. In terms of medals, Canada has been keeping pace with expectations, but if you were expecting a repeat from 2018 it's understandable as to why you would be disappointed. On the gold medal front things have been pretty bad. We didn't have too many gold medal favourites and the ones that were haven't been cashing in.
  21. Honestly the best I felt we could have done was 4th so maybe it was for the best we finished 5th.
