Watching some of these modern pentathletes ride show jumping feels like watching Raygun do breaking - makes you appreciate how good the pros are.

Can I just take a moment to note how insane it would have sounded back in Rio or London to hear that Canada won three athletics gold… despite three of its biggest medal chances bombing out? There is so much more depth in our track and field team now.

Team performance wise, not as happy as I was at this point with Tokyo, a bit happier than with Rio and Beijing 2008, but so much happier than with Athens 2004, London 2012 and especially Beijing 2022. has at worse matched it’s all time gold and overall medal records in non-boycotted games, and Andre de Grasse just became a real Canadian sporting legend. I can (and in the heat of the moment do!) complain, but I know that when I have a little bit of hindsight I’ll be really happy with how Canada did these Olympics. More generally, and not looking as closely at team Canada specifically, I think these Olympics aren’t as good as London 2012, but it’s generally a strong return to “normal” following the two COVID Olympics.

Also, IMO these Olympics feel awesome after what was, for me, the incredibly gloomy Beijing Olympics (which, for me, only had two unambigous bright spots: the women's hockey gold and the men's 5000m relay gold)

On reflection, even if Canada doesn't win any other medals (which I think would be surrising tbh) I'm still relatively happy with the overall performance. I feel like most of our big favourites did win. There were a lot of dissapointments, too, but I feel like that happens every Olympics. The fact that we matched our (non-LA 1984) record in both gold medals and total medals despite those misses is really impressive. And I've not given up on us breaking both records! Just that if you told me these were the medals we would win before the games, I would have gladly taken it. Like, honnestly, Summer McIntosh's performence along with the men's 4x100m relay are things we're going to talk about decades from now. That's pretty awesome.

Something I didn't realize in real time, is that had the exact same athletes in the exact same order in the men's 4x100m in Tokyo and in Paris (and 3/4 were in the final in Rio, too).

I mean weightlifting has already been confirmed to be in LA so... who knows how many events and quotas they will have, but it's there. Boxing is actually the only remaining question mark on the program, and being so close to the games IMO it's really not looking good.

Bold of you to assume there will be boxing in LA. I'm actually very bearish on Boxing's chances of being in LA, not because of this controversy but because World Boxing is simply not taking off and the IBA has done absolutely nothing to make the IOC regret stripping their recognition.

Well, gold medal for . Can't say I think they deserved it, for me the first set was a clear robery.

That first set feels like a robbery, with getting away with a blatant carry on set point.

And only one gold medal that I feel was a real upset (the men's 4x100m)
