  1. I mean, even w/ the leaks I'm still waiting for proof that she's trans.
  2. I can't believe they came up with a new hockey event I *don't* want added to the Olympics
  3. I mean, there are plenty of Olympic sports and events that cater very specifically to North America, East Asia and (especially) Europe, I don't think it's a bad thing to have one sport that caters to the Indian subcontinent. Especially since that's more people than North America and Europe combined. Also, IMO on the merrits cricket is definitively worthy of Olympic inclusion.
  4. I'm not sure how it is elsewhere, but in the US the rights for all events in and are sold separately, while every other event's broadcast rights was sold in a package (to an expensive pay streaming service)
  5. One of the thing that the commission assessed was her Lithuanian language abilities, and they found it satisfactory.
  6. It appears likely Allison Reed will soon be granted citizenship by way of exception (this will also allow her to keep her citizenship) after a unanimous recommendation from the country’s citizenship commission. The president still needs to provide final approval.
  7. We FINALLY have a schedule! https://x.com/SSC_PVC/status/1849204271511744646
  8. Not having a schedule makes it more Gen Z friendly, it makes the event more spontaneous, urban and gender neutral.
  9. It seems to be entirely driven by time zone issues. From the IOC's standpoint the whole reason to include cricket in the Olympics is to (vastly) increase the value of the TV deals from India. It isn't to grow the game in the US or w/e.
  10. Getting the band back together!
  11. Two-time short track Olympian Maame Biney is retiring, seemingly due to injury.
  12. Bottcher just has bad vibes. And all the teams he's been on have had personel drama.
  13. Will be super exciting to see how she does in the CT!
  14. Bottcher is one of the few Canadian athletes I root against :<
  15. Sounds like a much more interesting event than the team aerial event. Going to be interesting to see how that competition format goes.
  16. Something that bothers me about 3x3 hockey as a new discipline is that it's a lot more similar to the "main" version of the sport than 3x3 basketball or beach volleyball. Heck, it's so similar that it's used as a tie breaker regularly in regular hockey! From a Canadian standpoint it would basically be who are the best overtime players and goallies who didn't make the A team on both the men's and women's side (on the women's side it would probably straight up just be the B team)
  17. I do think we need a rethink of how short track is packaged as a broadcast product given how little money is involved. Pretty hard to make a living in that sport.
  18. I'm releived this saga is over, at least from a sporting point of view.
  19. Ya, my family settled in North America before John Washington was born. We’ve been here a while.
  20. America was founded on a big chunk of empty land that was uninhabited, right. And hey, my ancestors moved to North America well over a hundred years before America was founded. Always tickled me a little that I immigrated to a country where some of my ancestors lived before the country even existed.
  21. The whole "homeland" talk (which both Israelis and Palestinians engage in) always bothers me because of how incredibly stupid it is. As a random example, I am Acadian. So where is my "homeland"? Is it Quebec, the "French" area in North America? Is it New Brunswick, where my ancestors fled to after being deported? It it Louisiana, which was set asside for them as a place to live by the British after they were deported? It is Nova Scotia, where the Acadians settled before being conquered and deported? Is it Normandy, where my ancestors lived in Europe before settling in Nova Scotia? Is it Denmark, where my ancestors lived before conquering Normandy? Or do I go back further? Or maybe I should live in Great Britain since my ancestors were forced to become subjects of the Crown? And I'm Roman-Catholic, so maybe Italy is my homeland? Especially stupid because for every single one of those places, some other group has a better claim as it being their "homeland" than I do, because it turns out it isn't that rare for multiple ethnic groups to have competing legitimate claims over the same area. Anyway, I ended up moving to Washington State, which is objectively not "my homeland" but, hey, weather's nice here.
  22. This feels like... not an argument an American (or a Canadian :P ) should be making given where we live and how many countries could "take us back"...
  23. It would be a complete disaster quotas wise. The winter games already have too small of an athlete quota for the current program.
  24. Some details on the IIHF's 3 on 3 hockey proposal: 8 team tournament for men's and women's 15 athletes per team, 240 athletes total (if they include this they better increate the 2900 athlete cap...) IOC expected to make a decision about including it in the Olympics in March
