  1. Also reaching gender equality and modernizing the program wasn't some flight of fancy, it is a necessity to keep the Olympics relevant. ...not that I agree with all the decisions they've made. Some of it is just baffling.
  2. Best medal-haul ever for Canada in a non-boycotted summer games, highest placing in the medal table since 1992, first team gold in a summer sport since 1908, two big stars (de Grasse and Warner) winning their first global title... this is definitively on the upper end of what Canada is capable of at the summer Olympics.
  3. TBH it really seems like Brazil isn't that far away from being consistently in the top 10 of the medal standings, especially with the addition of two sports (skateboarding and surfing) where Brazil is historically one of the top country. Glad we beat you this time because I'm not sure when the next time's gonna be :P
  4. I won't miss the timezone... though Beijing's isn't any better for me xD
  5. Did y'all know that Thomas Bach, president of the IOC, is an Olympic champion (1976, fencing)?

  7. Would be way funnier if he was dressed up as Obelix.
  8. It would be tragic to see weightlifting be removed, but at some point how many chances does the IWF deserve? (In any case the rule change is ridiculous and how much power is being concentrated in the Executive Board is really disturbing)
  9. https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1111402/ioc-passes-charter-changes-weightlifting This is basically the end of Olympic weightlifting, it looks like. The IWF deserves it, the athletes don't.
  10. Disgusting result, Canada would have finished 1-2 if the draw wasn’t rigged. (/s)
  11. It was absolutely the correct decision by rule, but it is indeed baffling for a layperson.
  12. They should really change the format, always having the gold medal be the least climactic moment of the tournament is really lame. A silver medal playoff would be way more exciting.
  13. I am pretty dang sure that if we were offered seven gold medals coming in every single one of us would have taken it without a second thought. Best Canadian performance at the summer games ever, excluding the heavily asterisked 1984 games.
  14. Someone in the back really should have deliberately caused a crash (by accident, obviously) given how obviously gold was gone with a lap and a half left.
  15. World record set at ridiculous altitude. She was a big prospect for sure but she we really had no clue how she’d do at a major event.
  16. Canadian sprint cycling went from zero to amazing really quick.
  17. is just never going to win Olympic gold *facepalm*
  18. Well that was unexpected gold for Mitchell. Second ever gold medal for Canada in cycling, both in the women’s sprint. What’s crazy about this is that Mitchell is obviously still a work in progress, her tactics are still just not really there.
  19. The elimination race is fun, but I really wouldn’t want it as a standalone event. Feels a little too… flukey.
  20. They should just rename the omnium to « point race » xD
