  1. Still a lot of skaters left in the B group, but Silovs has moved himself up from 50th to 36th in the time ranking. Currently he is making the Olympics with three places to spare. In the live ranking Michael the last time qualifier, but he is yet to skate.
  2. Point ranking remained unchanged after the B group. Time qualifiers: x2 x2
  3. Raibu Katayama had an absolutely horrible crash in the half pipe competition, hitting his head hard on the deck. NBC is reporting he was conscious and waving to the crowd as he was escorted off.
  4. If Michael sneaks into the 1500m he will also be able to start the mass start, fwiw. He's guaranteed to be a reserve in the mass start, and up to six reserves can enter the mass start if they are already skating another event. A sad outcome from today: Haralds Silovs was 0 points away from qualifying for the mass start (lost out on best result to Tai)
  5. A -250kg category in wrestling would be terrifying xD
  6. It looks like this is the Olympic debut for in speed skating. It also looks like and will both miss out on these Olympics entirely - is first reserve in the 10000m and was 3 points away from qualifying in the 5000m Edit: actually, forgot that Michael is in a qualifying position in the 1500m (barely).
  7. Women's 3000m Qualified by points: x3 x3 x2 Qualified by time: Host nation quota:
  8. Updated 5000m: By points: x3 x3 x3 By time: x2 So not a lot of changes after division B, Japan took a quota from Norway.
  9. I know there was a lot of suspense, but I have breaking news: van der Poel has won the long distance world cup. Edit: this is actually incorrect, Bloemen has a minuscule chance of catching up, but it involves Bloemen winning the final race and van der Poel not finishing or being DQed.
  10. Literally the first time I heard about that was on Wikipedia.
  11. I'm 30 and I'd be too young to have heard of the Goodwill Games if I wasn't a huge Olympics nerd.
  12. I mean the US is trying to get the Winter Olympics *right now* and they still did the diplomatic boycott thing. I honestly don't think the IOC cares that much.
  13. beats for the final spot. Congrats to and for both going undefeated against a strong field. Final mixed doubles field: Special congrats in order to and who are making their Olympic debut in curling.
  14. We do not know. The IOC is apparently going to clarify tomorrow the steps Boxing and Weightlifting need to follow to be included in 2028. There is apparently going to be a way for them to be included other than the additional sport path. It definitively looks like it isn't game over for the three sports that are currently excluded, but this is still obviously not good for them.
  15. Paris set a pretty clear precedent that the IOC will let you host surfing literally anywhere in your country without any complaints - a Toronto bid would have no problem finding a suitable natural venue somewhere in Canada. And if there is no suitable venue in country and a bid isn't willing to have a venue in another country wave pools are a possibility now (even though they are very much considered a back-up option).
  16. List of core sports, as of 2028, with new additions in bold: Aquatics Archery Athletics Badminton Basketball Canoeing Cycling Equestrian Fencing Field hockey Football Golf Gymnastics Handball Judo Rowing Rugby Sailing Shooting Table tennis Taekwondo Tennis Triathlon Volleyball Wrestling Climbing Surfing Skateboarding As of the 2028 Olympics Boxing, Modern Pentathlon and Weightlifting are no longer "core" sports. Their place have been taken by Climbing, Skateboarding and Surfing, who are now permanent parts of the Summer Olympics. There will be a "pathway" for Boxing, Modern Pentathlon and/or Weightlifting to be included as "core" sports for 2028, and of course the OC could propose them.
  17. beat in the first semi-final and beat in the second semi-final. And just in, the result of the first final: has qualified for the Olympics in curling for the first time ever, thanks to a 6-5 win over . Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt went an impressive 7-0 all tournament and will now go to the Olympics. If John Morris doesn't win the Canadian mixed doubles Olympic trials he will go to the Olympics as a coach for Australia.
  18. Last two spots are by time, so if they run a good race in Salt Lake City they should get one of those two spots. They won't qualify by points.
  19. If they lose *any* quota it reduces the max number of skaters from the already low maximum of 9 to 8 (it was 10 in Pyeongchang).
