  1. The anual edition is becoming each year more difficult for me since i'm not living in Portugal anymore, but on the other hand it's a good excuse to update myself with the latest music of my country, so Portugal is in! I'm sure i'll find something
  2. I'm working from home since march or april (i dont know, from the first lockdown basically) with no prediction on when to return to the office. I like it, but i must say i miss a bit the social part with the team. Online team events help, but it's not the same... Where do you work btw, in Amsterdam?
  3. Interesting thing, this whole new spike of cases are about two weeks after the black friday (where i guess you know how too many people went to the shops because.... korting!...). Maybe it's coincidence, but still interesting
  4. In Portugal they just decided now to forbid entry from anyone coming from UK, except for Portuguese people, and for those they demand PCR negative test.
  5. Of course, not at all a ridiculous way for Ronaldo to be seen in Qatar so that all those rich sheiks can see it live.... Edit: nevermind, i see that they will play all matches in Europe (right?)
  6. interesting group for Portugal with Serbia and Ireland. Luxembourg is cool due to the amount of Portuguese emigrants there. People in portuguese media were mocking the result saying that Luxembourg was drawn as opponent as a way of allowing Ronaldo to get 6 or 7 more goals to beat that iranian guy for the world record of most international goals haha
  7. The song get's even sadder when you realize that's her brother singing with her about the distance between them. Her family is quite famous in Portugal (her father, Tony Carreira, is a huge singer in the country, and his other two kids - Mikael and David - also became famous singers and actors), so this was quite a shock for Portuguese people.
  8. Sad day to TISC. Today one of the Portuguese participants in the TISC 2019 edition (Sara Carreira) died in a car crash, with only 21 years old. This was her contest entry:
  9. This was a good contest! I'm not sure but maybe one of the few times (or the first time?) that the song i liked the most won the contest. Also happy with the top 20 on the portuguese song, glad a few people liked the song!
  10. Thank you! Also, I have not said this before but I loved the French entry, it reminded me of London 2012 olympics, I love the instrumental part of the song
  11. yeah I meant places like febo and other fries place where they sell... fries. which was super hero for me but then I got used and sometimes we get some as fast food. also I forgot about something really good as well: kapsalon!! So good and SO F*CKING UNHEALTHY!
  12. Oh that’s right I forgot the fries that you guys eat it not as sidedish, but just as fries. With Mayo. I used to be a ketchup-only and now I can’t imagine fries without Mayo. I guess it’s contagious haha
  13. i LOVE erwtensoep! It’s so good and it warms you in the winter, even took my parents to eat some when they came here to visit me, one of my favorite things in the Netherlands (together with kibeling and poffertjes. And stroopwafels. And bitterbollens. And kruidnoten. And ooliebollens. And... I should stop now )
  14. This gives more value to me than the points. Thanks!
  15. We got points! Really happy you liked the music!
  16. “I’m not your buddy, pal” (South Park joke )
  17. I’m not yet able to post the votes! Also, thanks for any that have any points to Portugal, I see we have a few more now haha
  18. Usually people prefer to learn Brazilian Portuguese, and for someone who wants to learn portuguese i do think is the best option as it is way easier to understand and speak. They speak with "open mouth" so it's more clear. "original portuguese" looks like is spoken with closed mouth, so often people just hear "shh shh shh" or similar haha You can also try the portuguese from our old african colonies, those are cool as well (angola's sounds funny to me)
  19. yeah i get this a lot. only with portuguese from Portugal though. But i have a couple of russian speaking friends and they, just like me, find both languages completely not alike, so i guess this only applies for others haha
  20. Interesting to hear that, it means that in your ears medieval European music of celtic roots look somehow similar to Arabic (is it?) music. it looks nothing similar to me btw haha but maybe is one of those things like when people that don’t speak neither Russian or Portuguese (from Portugal) say the languages sound similar, while for us they look nothing alike
  21. I’m actually gonna leave temporary to have a sinterklaas brunch with stroopwafels and kruidnoten and all that! Love this season
  22. We got points But most importantly, someone liked mirandese music! Mission accomplished Muchas gracias a nuestros hermanos!
  23. Btw, since this contest is organized in The Netherlands, and since it has not be shown yet, I think i need to mention one of my favorite celebrations that is traditional from this place, specially because it starts tomorrow: Sinterklaas! It's a story of a bishop that comes from Spain on a steamboat, together with some helpers, and arrives in The Netherlands in the beginning of November, with all the kids waiting for him, and then goes with his horse and gives presents to the kids on 5th December (if some part of the story is wrong feel free to correct me @heywoodu!). But if you are a bad kid, you will not get a present, and instead you will be put into a bag, and be sent back to Spain! (i think this was where it began the dutch fascination with Ibiza ) Although it generated some conflicts between the adults and controversy due to the Sinterklaas helpers (the Piets) being dressed with blackface, the kids totally love both it, both the Piets and Sinterklaas. We love this tradition so much that, with the exception of this weird year, we went for 4 straight years to assist to the arrival and parade of Sinterklaas (and even took part in one parade, as part of my gf company segment of Amersfoort parade). Here's a small explanation of the feast, where beyond celebrating the Sint, you eat kruidnoten, chocolate letters of your initial, and other nice things!
  24. No. Cruel is giving you a drop pretending that it's a candy, like my colleagues did to me when I arrived in The Netherlands and thought it was a nice sweet thing. It's not. It's an abomination that deserves to be burned Most of expats i know hate it as well, although the eastern europeans seem to like it just like the dutch. For clarification, this is a drop:
