  1. In the worst case scenario for us, the conditions will be equal for everyone - something like in Beijing 2022. If the competition were held in Igls, Austria would have a huge advantage.
  2. The track in Cortina has a future but it needs to be used well: apply for a place in the World Cup calendar, to organize World Championships, etc. Encourage other countries to train there. Maybe open the track to tourists for recreational ride during some time: some tracks in Germany do this or La Plagne in France. Cortina has a good location: it`s a well-known resort with a large accommodation and restaurant base. Cesana was a much worse place - the venue for the 2006 Olympic Games in luge and bob sports. There was no infrastructure around there + the area had no tradition in these sports.
  3. Some people explained it as Covid, but the work should start in 2021 at the latest. Paradoxically, the Meloni-Salvini government finally led to the construction of this track, and the previous technical government - Draghi did nothing in this direction. Although Draghi very often took pictures with athletes with medals. Salvini did at least 1 good thing in his political life If it wasn't for his last-minute about-face, the competition would probably be in Switzerland or Austria. I didn't believe in options with Cesana + Cortina is a better place for this track to continue operating in the future (better location + tradition in luge and bobsleigh sports).
  4. https://www.fondoitalia.it/2024/10/27/notizie/argomenti/olimpiadi/articolo/olimpiadi-milano-cortina-2026-pista-da-bob-lavori-in-linea-con-i-tempi-ce-soddisfazioni-tra-le.html The question is, couldn't this have been done 2-3 years ago, without all this drama and fuss?
  5. She was at her peak in February at the World Championships in Doha. If she had swim like that in Paris, she would have won bronze. She's a good swimmer but to win medals at the Olympics, as you can see, you need something more - like peak form at a key moment. Because let's not kid ourselves, but swimming in a short pool in the winter is more fun.
  6. 3x 4th place today. Men's relay crash. Our entire team is based only on Sighel. If he's not in shape, we have to count on others crashing, like yesterday in the women's relay.
  7. The Netherlands without Schulting can field 2-3 more strong and young skaters and we have been relying solely on one Fontana for a dozen or so years, who is 34 and still the best of us. Although I doubt she will ever win anything on an individual level again. Unfortunately, we miss generational change and 1-2 skaters at the level of, for example, Desmet or one of the Americans. I`m not talking about Fontana, because we will haven`t someone like that again for the next 100 years.
  8. Sighel is unfortunately in poor shape. He doesn't shine and lets himself be overtaken in a childish way. Those 2x4 places are still beyond his actual level. The women's team, despite winning yesterday in the relay, unfortunately doesn't have a single athlete capable of fighting for an individual medal under normal conditions and that won't change. This was already visible at the last World Championships, when Arianna Fontana was the best Italian in every competition after 2 years without starts. It doesn't look good. Maybe Valcepina will come back in the 500 meters but unfortunately none of the youngsters are able to make visible progress.
  9. This country dominates in boxing on summer games, for example Paris. I remember that we were cheated of an Italian in a fight with an opponent from this country in the heaviest weight class.
  10. In any case, without Fontana in top form we will have to continue to count on such lucky coincidences.
  11. Men`s team also in final, even though Sighel isn`t in top form.
  13. And from which countries - If you have VPN still can to watch via YouTube? For me, YouTube is the best, because you can watch everything with a delay - even a few days.
  14. It`s all the more strange that Italy qualified two womens for Paris, even though this discipline has been in a great crisis in our country for many years - since we stopped naturalizing Chinese some 20 years ago.
  15. Sven Goran Eriksson probably had 1 year to live after the diagnosis but it was a good life or so it looked like - he traveled, for example, he was in Rome at the Lazio stadium in the spring. If he felt really bad, he probably wouldn't have traveled. I hope it's similar for Hoy, although unfortunately cancer with metastases to the guests can cause severe pain
  16. 2-4 years is not a short time to enjoy life - the question is what will life be like after 2 years? Will it not be full of pain in hospice and under morphine?
  17. Sinner won against Alcaraz for the first time this season. This match will not count towards official statistics but from a mental point of view it will be very important for him. Firstly, a prestigious tournament and final + 6 million dollars more in the account :P
  18. Milan is good, but the rest of the team is weak. What's more, the same people keep starting, even if they are out of shape: Paternoster, Scartezzini, etc. This is a good time for me to test someone younger. We win a lot of medals at junior competitions but the same people keep starting, who will probably never will be better.
  19. She could have tried to compete in the Olympics on the track this year, especially since the road course wasn`t good for her. I don't understand what's the point of fielding riders like Scartezzini... He's 32 and starts in a points race completely anonymously... It's probably time to start fielding younger riders. Ok, Viviani has great authority and we have to say goodbye to him nicely but that's all.
  20. I have a feeling that if Wiebes took track more seriously, she could have won 1-2 gold medals in Paris. Especially since Archibald couldn't start. The competition between these two athletes could be very interesting in the Omnium. Kopecky has lost some of her track skills after putting more concentration on her road career.
  21. A weak day for our team. The women's performance in the pursuit race was very telling... In 2022, we clearly beat the UK in the World Championship final. Now we haven't even advanced to the final, and the UK had no rivals here. At the moment, the UK, New Zealand and the USA are clearly beyond our reach and yet our squad has been very stable squad for several years. Others are making progress, and us? Maybe it's because the UK focuses 100% on the track, and our competitors ride the road all the time. On the other hand, some of the girls in the USA also compete on the road, and they won gold in Paris. After 2022, I expected a little more from our girls than 4th place in Paris and bronze at the World Championships in an Olympic year in a weak field. In my opinion, we miss a great individuality in the women's team, like Ganna in the men's, or Archibald in the UK, Kopecky in Belgium, etc. What great individuality means was shown yesterday by Wiebes in scratch, who outclassed the rest of her opponents, despite never having competed on the track before. Perhaps Balsamo would be such a person for us, but unfortunately constant injuries don`t allow her to spread her wings. We did win gold in Paris in Madison but let's not kid ourselves that neither Paternoster, nor Consonni, Guazzini, or Fidanza will ever be great stars.
  22. And when was the last time you had a winter where you could skate outside? Is`t more like 10 or 30 years ago?
  23. Are conditions used for skating in Netherlands in winter time, now? I read that it some time ago to be very popular. How is it now? Secondly, how does the covered track in Heerenveen earn money outside of competition days? Do other teams from other countries train there or can private people just skate there?
  24. Perhaps because of the increasingly warmer winters? From a competitive sports perspective, you need to train indoors to be successful these days: training takes place all year round + you are free from weather conditions. I suspect that until the end of the 20th century there were a lot of open ice rinks - the weather allowed it then.
  25. The track in Inzell was also once open but the Germans decided to cover it and now they make money on the fact that, for example, the Italian team trains there in the summer. If the Italians had such a good approach to business, they would build a covered track in Collalbo themselves and, for example, other nations would train here, e.g. Poland, the Czech Republic, etc. The Olympics in 2026 should be an impulse for such action but unfortunately in Italy is miss wise and competent managers.
