We're supposed to view Ukraine as a sisterly nation here,i don't know from were this idea has come but i refuse to accept it. I see no way that a boycott will do anything for us,but stop several of our athletes, from competing in their last olympics, for some it would be a last chance at a medal, and there supposed to give it op because ''hurr durr, solidarity'' Boycotting won't do shit, nevermind the fact that it's not gonna happen anyways,at most the closest countries to Ukraine will boycott,it will make no impact,so the baltics will be left looking like clowns.I'm hoping our olympic federation has sense and understands that this is the worst possible time for us to do something like this.
I get it, and I can see why one or another country would boycott it (although I don't like it). The same way as Cuba and Albania boycotted Seoul 1988 in defense of North Korea.

I just wish that the NOC would do like used to do and rejects those quotas that were won too easily.
they don't do this anymore. As in BMX cycling, where a guy from RSA was the last at World Championships and guaranteed a quota to Paris.

They say 11 BLRUS athletes are qualified. Do these people - one by one - fulfill IOC entry criteria? No support for the invasion, no military connection???
btw, fun fact: BLR and RUS are basically one country now , they will perform under the same flag now somehow, you must admit there is some logic in it - one country one flag heh
no idea... by my numbers:
BLR has 1 in cycling, 2 in wrestling, 1 in rowing
RUS has 2 in cylcing, 4 in wresting, 5 in athletics.but not sure if they counted athletics and swimming on it - as it's no direct quota.

Lithuania and Estonia are surely going to be boycotting,
I truly don't understand how they are so enraged by Russian / Belarussian participation and don't condemn other "agressor" countries with "blood on their hands".
And I love how people just throw the card "IOC does not know what Olympism is all about", as some say that the Pope is not a "real catholic" and so on.
One can just point out how Olympism has its flaws as a philiopshy without point out how it just knows all about it. -

With the IOC's decision, what are the list of sports where Russia can qualify? Does she already have quotas? Can Ukraine or other nations boycott the Olympic Games?
All individuals.
From my understanding of what is not fully written:
Russian and Belarus athletes can not form pairs (as in tennis doubles, etc). And they will get invitations to sports in which the qualification is already finished or has sidelined them (gymnastics comes first in my mind, but boxing etc).
Would be more intersting if they could still attend olympic qualifiers (as in boxing, or gymnastics world cup) instead of gaining straight quota.

Thank you so much!!! So, the quotas will only be confirmed in January?? Or probably WTF (lol) will release a new ranking this week?
-
According to this Rafalovich is the 5th and Maicon went down to 11th?
I guess it was not updated yet? -
Guys, last minute question. How many points does the Grand Slam next week offers? In the 80kg, for instance, I see the Iranian is leader with 750, but can a champion take the place?
and just to clarify, since the official document is not very clear, only the ones not qualified through the ranking are eliegible, right? thanks! -

It's because Elina also doesn't have a permitted amount of participation in the Billie-Jean Cup, therefore she's also in contention with the Legacy quota or some other issues can be considered.
ah ok! but just to be clear, one would also need the BJK etc quota for the Legacy quota. She can get it if she's below the last direct olympic quota, but i guess that's unlikely.
And again, this is just a way to let national federations dismiss qualified athletes...

Svitolina said recently in the interview, that she talked about this legacy quoat and was told she would get it if needed.
But she is going to play one more tounament for the national team next year before the Games. So she hopes she will need that legacy quota.
How is Svitolina in this discussion?
Either way, Swiatek or Svitolina won't need the LEgacy quota, they can get it with ranking points easily.
But remember that legacy quota is an addendum to the rankings, so the same rules & conditions apply. The legacy quota is only an "extra" to garantee that someone under 70 or so and up top 400 in the rankings goes to the Olympics. The "national team conditions" are the same either through direct ranking, Legacy or universality... if she is number 1 or 20 and doesn't get the ranking direct quota she is NOT elegible for the legacy.

Sometimes I think about providing Olympic consulting to small nations in the Pacific and Africa.
Not sure if they are interested, but if they properly read Olympic Qualification Documents they could even double up their number of athletes...

Iga is currently not eligible in Paris because she refused to play in Fed Cup this year. She should play next year to have Paris assured.
She may not play if:
- POL will be in the final in Seville this year - then POL will not play before olympics again,
- she gets injured when POL will play next year before olympics.
This is a very risky situation.
She may get one of 2 legacy champ / grand slam champ places ofc but she may not. Osaka, Wozniacki and some others may be chosen.
So I am really disappointed she chose not to play in Seville.
How is this all Iga/Fed Cup is being played in Poland?
this requirement is pretty stupid tbh and if the Polish Tennis Association is ok with her not participating they can always tell ITF that it was a technical decision, etc. In the end, the tennis association will choose if she's allowed or not. the 2 legacy champs/grand slams are also decided on merits of ranking, so if PTA rules her out, she's out - but i doubt it. -

because they are morons ?
most continents use their continental Champs for the Olympic Qualifier (except Pan-Am for obvious reason of having 2 confederations) but in Asia we always had a separate qualification tournament which is totally unnecessary . but this all started with that West vs East war in Asian Handball. things look cool now but at some point 20-25 years ago every match including a west Asian team vs an East Asian team was a war with biased officiating, fights etc.
people probably still remember what happened in 2008 Olympic qualifiers. where IHF finally stepped in and ordered a re-match.
so I guess nobody ever realized "we don't need this separate qualifier anymore" yet Asian Championship at the start of 2024 could be the Olympic qualifier too. Asian Games was in a bad time, some teams didn't have their full squads. (we still don't have ours, some of our Euro-based players didn't show up again)
Actually, Pan American Games were the qualifier for Americas!!!
I guess USA keeps trying to have its own confederation so they could go as well, as they don't stand a chance with Argentina, Brazil and Chile... -
So, I have put my Japanese to test and all good now. Here is the link with all results.
Results for MC1 - HANEDA Takuya (JPN), gold
Results for MK1 - WU Shao-Hsuan (TPE), 4th place as Japan and China had quotas.
Results for WC1 - HUANG Juan (CHN), gold
Results for WK1 - CHANG Chu-Han (TPE), bronze as China had already a quota at the event and Japan a quota at the discipline -
Is there some place with the results?
If I'm on the right link, only Japanese athletes contested the MC1? if so, the event would not be valid.

I have a question: can country register 2 different riders, having 1 quota in RR and TT? For example, can Ukraine choose both Kononenko and Biriukova, or we need to send only 1 rider who will participate in 2 disciplines?
take the TT quota as the one for mixed doubles in tennis. Only athletes with a quota to RR can participate in it.

I had noted here after the Worlds that Ognjen Ilic (SRB) could also get a quota through his result at time trial, but this doesn't make sense right? Rereading the guide now and only Road Race results are counted.

No, participation in the tournament does not provide the right to be qualified. For example, RPO athletes at the European Shotgun Championships recently. One of them got enough points to get place in final and fightt for quota. But was not eligible to qualify according to the regulations. The same applies to russians and belorussians in our case. They were allowed to participate but not to qualify.
According to actual rules pairs are not allowed at all. They will be counted separately. But!!
I doubt they will have full squads since tennis players have to take part id Davis Cup / Billie Jean King Cup competitions in 2023/2024 to be qligible.
There are some exceptions. But I doubt they will use all their "wild cards" for russians and bellorussians.
Sorry for late responce.
hey, mate, no worries.
In the end we have no clue what will be made of hahaha
but i am "saving" the quota for Belarus on my notes and I guess if the quota is not to Belarus, probably it will be used as a "Reallocation" case.
It could have been the first Belarus quota, as Russia has already some OQT in athletics (to be seen if they will be valid...)
Regarding the tennis, the same scenario... The Davis Cup/BJK thing in the end is a big bull**** used to punish athletes who are in dispute with their federations. It was hardly used in Tokyo/Rio. The athletes from Russia and Belarus would claim that their team was not allowed, so therefore they could not commit to their teams. I'm sure this will not be a decider for that.

The commentators mentioned at the official broadcast that AIN athletes cannot qualify boat since they do not represent NOC and a NOC only can qualify a boat.
But the quoata which they "won" will not be automatically redistributed to the next eligible athlete. It does not look fair enough.
World Rowing will held these quotas.
Considering that Guatemalan, Russian and Belarus athletes are neutral, therefore not representing a NOC, it does feasible for me to think that their quotas will go to IOC/"Neutral Athletes" Team or something on that regard.
What I'm still struggling to understand is if Russian and Belarus will count as "one team" in the matters of quota. In Tennis rankings for instance (could 6 russians and 6 belarussians go or 6 in total? could russia and belarus form a pair?).But in the meantime, their quotas are secured, as it's fair to be, since the athletes won (if they are allowed or not to participate is another matter, but since they are, they should be able to earn their quotas).

but curiously events in Russia and Belarus count for the olympic ranking/quota, but so far no swimming event in Russia was "Green-lighted". Perhaps the russians will start to swim in other countries (Doha?) and finally will get their quotas.
