  1. which Canadian male gymnast would you send to Rio?
  2. Just got word that Darragh and Block have been nominated pending the medley team qualifying. Milosevic and Bagshaw will be added if the 4x200 relay qualify (and will be joined by Kisil and Thormeyer). Ruck was added from her fifth place finish in the 4x200 relay, though she was announced as competing in the 4x100, weird.
  3. 27 swimmers will represent Canada (including open water). Most likely that number will rise to 28 with Jason Block being added for the men's 4x100 medley relay (we won't know till June, but Canada is safely in qualification position by more than 3 seconds). Condorelli (butterfly), Acevedo (backstroke) and Kisil (freestyle) will round out the team and are already named to the Olympic team. The men's 4x200m relay is also in qualification position and might decide to use two already qualified athletes (Thormeyer and Cochrane) + 2 additional names to bring the total to 30 swimmers (1 less than in London). The surprise was the addition of Taylor Ruck (15 year old) who won gold medals at the World Juniors last year but struggled here with injuries. She will be an alternate for the relays in Rio (giving Oleksiak much needed rest from the prelims). Hopefully Ruck can be back to her form from last year! For the full roster click here. From following Canadian swimming from Athens (no medals, which was crushing) I can honestly say this is one of the strongest teams I have seen). Medal candidates: Weinberger - open water swim, if he cuts down on his mistakes he should medal Cochrane - going for two medals in the 400 and 1500 (will be tough, but who knows its possible he can pull it off) Condorelli - 100 freestyle Oleksiak - is a threat in almost all her events, hopefully she wins 1! McLean - Produced world class results in the 400 and 800, and hopefully she can pull of a double in Rio. The women's 4x100 medley relay team is just outside a medal, maybe they can rise up to the occasion Caldwell in the women's 200m backstroke should threaten for a medal. Pickerm/Overholt - 1 medal between the two in the individual medleys So the potential is there for 10 medals!!
  4. Women's Hammer throw Heather Steacy - 72.07 Women's Shot put Taryn Suttie - 17.88
  5. Big weekend for Canadian summer sport so far. 3 gold medals at the Diving grand prix Tory Nyhaug won gold in the men;s time trial bmx world cup event
  6. That would mean Bedopassa Buassat of Guinea Bissau would get the quota.
  7. Because France has the worst goal differential among all 8 teams who qualified for the next round.
  8. Day 3 of the Canadian trials saw 6 swimmers qualify. Ashton Baumann - Men's 200m breaststroke Ryan Cochrane - Men's 400m freestyle Kennedy Goss/Katerine Savard - Qualified for the women's 4x200m relay (McLean/Oleksiak already qualified swimmers will swim the individual 200 m) Rachel Nicol/Kierra Smith in the 100m breaststroke. So far 13 swimmers have qualified.
  9. Athletics: 5 Swimming: 2 Canoeing: 1 Rowing: 1 Cycling: 2 Wrestling/Judo : 2 Diving: 2 Rugby: 1 Basketball: 1 Gymnastics: 1 18 total
  10. So dumb to use different crtieria to determine who finsihes where. The first method that would work (since head to head points would not work) would be head to head goal differential. In that case Italy first, Spain second and Netherlands third. Hoping France doesn't win as they do not deserve it.
  11. Day 2 of the Canadian Trials saw 5 more swimmers qualify (4 women and 1 man) Javier Acevedo in the men's backstroke, 0.03 seconds of the NR at 53:67 Dominque Bouchard (59.93) and Kylie Masse (59.06, new NR and second best time in the world this year) qualified in the women's 100m backstroke Emily Overholt and Sydney Pickerm both qualified in the 400im, both well off Overholt's NR set back in 2015 when she won bronze at the Worlds. No qualifiers in the men's 200m butterfly.
  12. Bouchard and Masse through in the 100m backstroke. Masse finished in 59.06 a new CR (second best time this year). All 3 women;s events have had the nr broken so far.
  13. So that likely means Canada and France will play to win lol. Canada finishes second with a tie as well.
  14. What is the tiebreak ?? Looks like Netherlands, Spain and Italy will be in a 3 way tie for first.
  15. Yea its some person trying to start conflict for no reason.
  16. Oleksiak would have won silver and Thomas Bronze with those times at the worlds last year! And Oleksiak is only 15! unreal.
