Lack of quality? The level in decathlon is crazy high these days. Needing over 8700 to medal has only happened once before. That time 4th best did score just over 8400. Yeah, it could have been even better if Skotheim or Warner did not fail their pole vault, if Lepage was not injured, if Mayer was not injured (but even then I didn't expect him to do well), if Ehammer might have participated in decathlon over long jump, if Owens or the Americans actually delivered once in an international tournament, if Scantling did not have a suspension, if Kyle Garland did not injure at USA trials, if Moloney didn't have another injury. If the Estonians would be stronger here. And even then there are other guys stepping up, like Rooth and Roosen. But the level of competition is crazy high these days. Yeah, the winning score is not crazy high. But that's decathlon for you, they can't deliver every time, there are injuries sometimes, there are moments where even favourites can drop out. There are mistakes to be made. You can't have a perfect run every time. I think we are in a crazy competitive era of decathlon. Maybe that lead to a bit too high expectations to you, but I did not feel there was lack of quality whatsoever.

Shootoff winnen maakt dus eigenlijk weinig uit.

Of je nou tegen de nummer 18 of de nummer 10 moet maakt voor een Roeffen ook niet zoveel uit, laatste worden is ook een manier om Zuid-Korea in de kwartfinale te ontlopen bij de teams. Gelukkig zijn het plaatsingswedstrijden en om een beetje ver te komen moet je vaak toch 1 subtopper verslaan. Wel zorgelijk vind ik de lage positie van Schloesser, we moeten die Mixed Team sessie wel even halen en liefst ook niet als 16e, want meteen tegen Korea heb je ook niets aan.

Maar dan kunnen we het hele team wel noemen.. hoe graag ik het ook zou willen, het dames turnen gaat met het team nooit een medaille leveren, tenzij iedereen van de balk valt bij de tegenstanders. Dat is geen outsider meer, dat is gewoon meedoen om het meedoen en niet om de winst.

Lijken mij buiten De Munck in principe kansloos. Dames 4x100 als het perfect valt heel misschien brons ja. Andere 2 zijn van die kansen, dan kan je boogschieten en tennis ook wel noemen. Ik geeft mixed team en Wijler meer kans dan de damesturners en als we met Koolhof/Schuurs gaan dubbelen die twee ook wel.

Boogschieten begint wel pas op dag 2 dit jaar. Voor de medailles dan. Hoop op het mountainbiken voor de eerste medaille toch wel. De grote bulk moet van het roeien, baanwielrennen en zeilen komen.
