  1. WA completely lost the plot with all the changes and funnily enough race walking impacts T&F very little since it's always held in the morning and doesn't influence the more important stadium events. The new marathon distance is a joke since they could have easily maintained the classic 50km but oh well, it's not the first time white collars have no clue what's going on. At least they clamped down on the Semenyas and Mbomas so that's a small price to pay.
  2. McGrath with some cramps and here comes Bonfim passing Wang as well.
  3. No medal for Yamanishi since he gets a 3rd red card
  4. Meanwhile Barrondo is still out there. I seem to recall he was the first to get DQ multiple times in the past decade
  5. Yeah, 1999 was Szaranowicz & Babiarz for TVP. Rudziński was with Eurosport back then already IIRC (he moved from TVP in mid 90s).
  6. For a country taking pride in making elite electronics we sure have a lot of electronics failures at these champs. TVP Sport clueless that Warner withdrew until they showed the empty lane. And this time it's the other veteran Rudziński. His co-commentator quickly browsed the reason online hehe.
  7. Torres said screw it and almost run up for bronze but Fujii hangs on.
  8. Fujii fading and might get caught by Garcia Leon...
  9. Luca Zidane has been granted citizenship so I presume he might show up in the senior NT.
  10. @copravolleyLike @Swewisaid Lane 1 is effectively the one where you run the full 400 meters. In Lanes 5-6 - due to cutting the curve you can run like 398 meters. The difference in lenght is commonplace in oval tracks in motorsports as well. You can have the same track with two different lenghts listed as one is measured in the middle of the track and the second is towards the bottom of the track. And the lenght varies between the two spots.
  11. No, we had zero medals in Rome 1987 as well (and that was a really weak team then, a couple of '83 medallists past their prime and bunch of domestic champions). Two 4th places were the best result.
  12. Lyles winning 200 sucks but medals for Hunt & Zapletalova made up for that
  13. @copravolleyYeah, 1992 was still better than 1988 but we had more surprises here (double gold in MP was a total shock and we did better in women's event which wasn't Olympic sport then). The weightlifting haul was like a dead cat bounce (Malak was tragically killed soon afterwards), we had two naturalised folks from Soviet Union, I believe Kozłowski (4th here) was later busted for doping but it was Wolczaniecki who won a medal and of course the usual rowing/canoeing combo so two sports nobody pays any attention to outside of the two weeks at the Olympics. Szukała was like Wojdat's follower (also trained in USA) and wrestling was a carryover from the communist days though Wroński actually didn't win a medal here (but golds in 1988 and 1996). Bartnik is still the last men's medal in boxing. Legień with his second gold but in different weight class than 1988. Men's football was a total shock even though we played amateurs from Qatar & Australia IIRC. I don't remember the bronze in shooting. Athletics was in the cellar. Partyka and Korzeniowski DQ from silver in the stadium gate which remains a well-known lore in Polish sports.
  14. I'm old enough to have lived in the early 90s with a conscious mind and I know how bad it was in athletics and several other sports. The 1984 boycott set us back years, Seoul 1988 was low on medals and we slightly bounced back in 1992 but only 1996 was back to the respectable results. 1980s were really bad compared to the 60s and 70s where we were a "powerhouse" in athletics, boxing, weightlifting & fencing. Funnily enough swimming was one sport where we never did any good and have zero historical PRL success until Artur Wojdat in the late 80s/early 90s (who was allowed to train in the USA since he was a teenager).
  15. The 1990s were quite poor in Polish athletics. We had Korzeniowski & Partyka and nobody else. The best woman was probably Urszula Włodarczyk in the heptathlon who always lost to the Americans and Sabine Braun anyway. If you exclude Wanda Panfil's 1991 unexpected gold in the marathon no Polish woman won a WCh medal in the track & field events until Monika Pyrek in 2001. Between 1983 and 2005 women won three medals (Panfil & Pyrek x2). Then Jesien (2007) a surprise in 400H and 2009 was the start of Anita Włodarczyk's tenure (Anna Rogowska finally won a WCh medal too). Long story short, Szewińska had little competition as to being the face of female athletics in Poland. Even our hurdlers from the early 80s carried very minimal public recognition into the 90s and beyond. Poland had their own "suspicious cases". Stanislawa Walasiewicz from the 1930s (can't pin that on communism and well, that's a clear cut case these days) and Ewa Kłobukowska in 1967.
  16. They narrowed it down to 47.78 for SML. Well, guess the WR chase will be on IF she wants to do it and pause on the 400H.
  17. Paulino also run faster than Kratochvilova!
  18. 47.80 from SML!!! Kratochvilova's CR is gone.
  19. Two medals for --> gold & bronze!
  20. Jessica Hull has been advanced to the 800m SF.
  21. McPhillips 1:43.18 NR! English won't make it as FL and Tual is out.
  22. Roje Stona switched to Turkey already and that's why he's ineligible to compete at the Champs.
  23. Lyles 19,51 in SF!
  24. Jessica Hull crashes in the last 800m heat
  25. Funnily enough this is Walcott's first ever World Champs medal. He bombed out in quals three times over the years and his previous best was 7th in 2017.
