Guys.. Your opinion on the recent controversy of making Salman Khan as goodwill ambassador for Rio 2016

My views:

1) IOA should have appointed 1 from each field (sports, bollywood, music, arts, science) rather than concentrating on bollywood alone. Olympics is historic event and cannot be compared to IPL, ISL, HIL, PBL, etc

2) Salim Khan, father of Salman Khan, should apologize not only to Milkha Singh but to the entire nation for insulting a sporting legend

3) IOA should have considered Salman Khan's track record. In 2009, he became the brand ambassador of AIFF and it did no good in creating awareness or opportunities

4) IOA is stating that they are now receiving corporate funding since appointment of Salman Khan, which is a good news. Will IOA ensure that these funds go to the athletes? Only 101 days remaining for Rio 2016 and I personally feel that the funds are coming at the 11th hour which will not benefit the athletes. If IOA felt that these funds would come, then why didn't they do this atleast a year ago so that our athletes could use these funds (provided it reach them) for high level abroad training

PS: 1 good thing coming out of this controversy - atleast few more people know that Olympics is approaching

I have not followed this saga much but here are my 2 cents: I am not sure why there is so much of fuss over Salman's appointment. I feel he 'can' be a great ambassador. Let's now hope that he does well and is encouraged. Criticism can be reserved once we are at a stage to judge his work as the ambassador.

Update from day 4 from the weightlifting Olympics qualifier

Women's weightlifting

Good news -  :IND quota finalised in women's weightlifting for Rio ................................   though the standings will be officially announced in three days ................... the down side ..............   Punam 204 kgs total here slight fall from worlds championship total of 208  ....................... almost surely with current scores India will finish 2nd after Vietnam ... I was expecting her to beat the Vietnamese and keep the contest open for the first place but that contest is over ....by the way ..... Saikhom  Mirabhai has broken the Indian snatch record in the 48kgs and equalled the Indian total record in 48 kgs in this event  ... a great achievement as usual not highlighted by the press

Men's weightlifting

Exciting event ....Indias Captain ........... Sathish  Sivalingam did well to finish with 23 points ...narrowly missing out on 25 points ......he was o.n a knives edge on the weight in with being weighed in at exactly 77 kgs ...one gram more he would have been knocked out .................... then he did well in the snatch and then gave the start weight  in clean and jerk as 175 kgs ( the same weight he gave to crash out of the world championships without a lift ) , luckily he moved down to 172........... and got one lift in and then missed 2 lifts at 177 ..........

Currently India is on the 8th position in the qualification with 7countries  to qualify but today's performance by Satish seems to help India's qualification chances as we now have 3/4 with 19 points or above if out of the remaining four 3 of them can  average 19 points we can surely qualify ........  In our corner are three accomplished weightlifters Vikas / Venkata and Pardeep with Gurdeep back up .........  So tomorrow is a critical day for the men's weightlifters with two Indians in the fray ................... Vikas and Venkata Ragala need  to cross 19 points ( i,e finish in the top 6 out of the qualifying nations  ) to ensure that India's chances become more concrete

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
    • The next chapter in the Krasnobaeva saga is upon us.   Looks like  Armenia have cut ties with her after only a few weeks. A person from their Federation has said, that they won't continue the relationship, because of her unprofessional and rude attitude towards the coaches and other officials. That includes: - having no respect to the coaches and their advise; - training without any motivation; - stops doing the routine and throws objects without any reason; - just lays on the floor and ignores the music.   When this was escalated with her mother, she mentioned that "Elvira has a strong temper and she was the same in Bulgaria and they tolerated her". Which of course is complete BS. If anyone attempted this shit here, they would be thrown out immediately.   And now  are wanting from her mother to return all finances they gave them, which she is refusing, so they will probably sue them. They will also inform other RG Federations about this situation, so they don't hire them.   My 2 cents on this is most likely Krasnobaeva was happy in BG and was forced out by her mother, so now she is sabotaging the move and be done with it.
    • Honestly Ruka is my favourite World Cup event of the whole season. Everybody is there. Later on there is always someone who skips one weekend or another . Not everybody takes part in Tour de ski. But here everyone shows up.
