that happened to so many people. Khomeini at the time of revolution had probably something like 90% support. maybe even more (which I still can't understand how and why)

he was supposed to be someone like Pope, stay in the holy city of Qom and do not interfere with the government.

of course that didn't happen and some people slowly started to realize the catastrophe. but make no mistake Khomeini was still extremely popular until his death.

there is a famous thing about Khomeini, when he landed in Iran with Air France 10 days before the revolution, lots of high profile people (exiled by Shah's regime) accompanied him inside the plane. none of them are with the regime anymore. they are either killed by MEK terrorists, killed or jailed by Khomeini himself or fled the country later.

You should realize the Soviet satellites like Poland supported Arab countries during Cold War so I'm aware how that political situation looked like. These days Sunni Islam is viewed as more acceptable as Shia Islam but Idk how many ppl are actually aware of this OR is there any "unofficial" truce between Sunnis and Shias to begin with (yes, I'm aware Iran is basically the biggest Sunni country out there against the Shia majority).

The political situation is crazy there, total chaos, but yet they've been having fantastic results in sports for years—the best in history. Crazy. A completely different system than in Russia, where we have a single party with 60% and a state monopoly.

To be entirely fair, South Tyrol going back to Austria doesn't exactly sound terrible :p

Although not great for Italy I suppose, losing arguably their safest region of the country.

How can the Netherlands function normally with such a fragmented parliament? Has it always been this situation?

    • The best team- Hungary – didn't advance and that was at home, because they had one weaker game against Slovakia. Italy had its chance and could have advanced-  a win against France for 3 points was enough for this. France use their chance – it's truly amazing that they can be strong in so many team sports– even hockey, which has never been very popular there. For Italy, this is still the best result in history. Btw, I wonder when Russia will return and how they will resolve this? Will they join directly to the Elite? Looking at other sports, it's probably only a matter of time before that happens and I1m sure, that the primadonnas from Moscow won't be playing in some lower divisions- and neither will their men`s friends.
