We are only few hours away from a catastrophe , probably one of the worst in the very long history of this country.

after the lowest turnout ever in the first round, things don't look better for the runoff, of course there is no reliable poll and I'm still hoping for a surprise when I wake up Saturday morning but it doesn't feel like that. this time it's not about just one "bad guy" but a very dangerous cult with weird delusional apocalyptic idea.

it looks like we have dodged the bullet for now, 6 millions more people decided to come out, increasing the turnout from 40% to 50% and that was good enough

doesn't mean this cult is gone, they already have the parliament and will try everything to sabotage the new government. but at least this gives the country (which is in critical situation) 4 more years to breath.

sorry for the pilots but that helicopter crash turned out to be a good thing after all.

Pezeshkian won the Iranian elections :yikes:

Honestly I didn't expect that.

Now, he have to demonstrate how is really a reformist and how much of his campaign was just propaganda.

Judging by what you wrote, none of the entire situation is exactly 'great', but of the possible outcomes of this week, this one is at least the better one and maybe even a tiny bit hopeful, then? (I hope, at least!)

Yes sure

that was hopeful but just a tiny bit. it was more like avoiding a disaster rather than making things better. while all hardliners are bad IMO, that guy Jalili belongs to their worst group, the worst you can imagine within the Iranian society. his idea was more similar to Taliban, nobody knows how his wife looks like (which is a sign of how he thinks of women) . actually I'm somehow still upset that he has 13.5 millions vote. that's very disappointing.

Jalili and his monstrous idea was the reason 6 millions more people showed up yesterday. still more than 30 millions (more than 50%) didn't which is also a bad sign. the wounds of 2022 have not healed yet

I don't fool myself. this is not going to change things dramatically, Khameneyi still call the shots in important matters (he doesn't interfere in everything but still), the IRGC is still there, the hardliners still control the parliament.

What do you think about this Shah regime before the 1978 revolution? In hindsight, what was the best path for your country back then?

that was still a bloody dictatorship with his notorious secret police SAVAK, but it wasn't religious, it wasn't anti-western and the economy was better. so in short, The Shah regime was bad, the current regime is much worse.

actually Iran was going into the right direction (or at least a better path) before the 1953 coup which was administrated and managed by USA and UK.

I still think 1979 revolution was a huge mistake, but that was inevitable unfortunately.

Iran could then follow the path of Turkey, where Ataturk introduced a secular state. Later, Erdogan began to move away from this, but Türkiye is still very modern and rich.

A far-right site calls for "eliminating" a list of 97 anti-RN lawyers: the Order of Lawyers seized by the Paris prosecutor

Goes pretty well with the new Dutch prime minister (since this week), Dick Schoof :p

Seems to be a rather penile week of politics.

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
