PAOK Salonika president invades pitch

The Greek top-flight match between PAOK Salonika and AEK Athens on Sunday was abandoned after PAOK's president invaded the pitch with a gun.

Ivan Savvidis tried to confront the referee with a gun in a hip holster after his side had an 89th-minute goal ruled offside with the score 0-0.

AEK's players left the pitch concerned for their safety and did not return.

The match was officially abandoned two hours later and it was reported the referee had reversed his decision.

Fifa said it is "aware" of the incident and "fully condemns such behaviour" but added that any disciplinary measures "fall under the jurisdiction of the Greek FA".

Greece's deputy culture and sports minister Georgios Vassiliadis said the situation called for "bold decisions".

Savvidis, one of Greece's richest men, was born in Georgia of Greek heritage and is a former member of the Russian parliament.

He asked his team to leave the pitch following the offside decision then marched towards the referee before being pulled back by bodyguards.

PAOK are third in the Greek top flight and could have moved within two points of leaders AEK with a win.

I suppose that president of PAOK will be at the very least banned for life from any involvement in sports whatsoever by the Greek FA? Plus if UEFA has some balls, they take some sort of action as well, because coming on the pitch with a gun can't be tolerated of course. I mean, it's kinda comical to see now that we know nothing happened, but come on :p

UEFA already threw the ball on Greek FA side , so I'm also surprised of the silence of Greek federation , but as long as this man has money and power u can expect anything , btw I wonder how come he was allowed to enter the pitch with a gun from the beginning

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
