Volleyball 2018 Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

According to some Slovenian sources (so still not official), 20 teams will participate in the European League this year, which will be split into two divisions: "GOLD" division with 12 teams and "SILVER" division with 8 teams.

Supposedly this are the groups of the GOLD division

Group A: :BEL:EST:SVK:SWE

Group B: :SLO:NED:TUR:UKR

Group C: :FIN:POR:CZE:ESP

My favourite Volleyball position: LIBERO. You ask why? Look here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyIOarNAONk

Just a curiosity, how many National Championships are you following? (if you're following any of them btw)

I watch Polish, German and Italian leagues on TV,or internet, and try to follow results of most european leagues :d not necesarily live score, but I try to follow the standings and news after each leg

Is the German league interesting? I never followed it much tbh :d ... I now watch the Italian Superlega and a bit of the Russian league (luckily they stream it for free) and try to follow the standings of some others (especially the Argentinian, French, Polish, Turkish and Brasilian leagues).

I don't watch men's volleyball leagues (or any club competition) but this year in Poland we can watch women's Italian league, which is far more exciting than Polish "Only Chemik wins" league. Though if I was to choose who's more attractive, Bednarek-Kasza or Chirichella... ;)

I only watch our league when matches are shown on tv (a few every week), then Perugia occasionally. Don't really have time to watch more than that though I follow results and statistics of every team in the world that has an argentine player in it.

Oh, all this is men's volleyball. I don't watch women's at all, only follow national teams.

Yeah, it is really interesting to watch, it starts to be one of the better leagues in europe, especially Berlin and Friedrichshafen are very strong clubs, and they have really great atmosphere during the matches too :d

Those are basically the only two teams I know of the German league :mumble::lol: thanks btw, I will try to take a look whenever I'll have the time!

+ As for women's matches I only follow Italian league tbh, especially my hometown's team.

    • In Italy, it's generally impossible to watch it anywhere except on pay TV on our federation's website, which is of terrible quality: there's no clock, only the score. • In 2024, Italy beat Slovakia 3-2 at the World Champ Division I B, but objectively, we were two level under you in that time and now we're at a similar level. Italy won here surprisingly easily – it was even 6-2 on begining of 3 period, but Slovakia showed strength in the matches against Hungary and Norway. On paper, I think Hungary is still the best here, so you have a good chance against France – even a 2-point win is probably enough for you. Regarding Italy, in 2022/23, we even lost to Poland and Slovenia, so we've made significant progress. Now it's crucial to continue this project and avoid something like China. Italy always needs support from North America, but we also have good local players – for example, our leading striker: Mathilde Fantin, is a born in Italy- Cuneo.
    • Thanks. We´ll see. If it has to happen it will. It it does not have to happen yet, it will not... yet.   Our woman´s program is working a couple of years now with a group of girls since their early teenage years, through Youth Winter Olympics and EYOFs and several team meetings, the core of the group is still around late teen and early twentys. Also it is obviously build around Nela Lopušanová who is still 18 years old.   The goal was set for the Olympics, maybe 2030 will be too soon but the program is showing every year bigger results and is still not over, we hopw by 2034 being a competitive team at the Olympics.   For the worlds we also are trying step by step, so even if not tomorrow this group of girls will certainly qualify to the elite in the upcoming time and the goal is obviously to be able to stay there as well once our time will arrive.
