Alpine Skiing at the Winter Olympic Games 2018

Recommended Posts

With shortened downhill track, only slalom specialists are in contention. Good donwnill racers dont stand a chance here. So,Mikaela,Wendy should be sure for medal,3rd place is still open.

This has been confirmed? :(

Commentator on Serbian ES just said that. So it should be truth.

I still hope they won do that.

And btw she's the oldest alpine skier to win an Olympic medal

What do you mean? At this olympics alone Svindal was older by about 2 years ... ?

Ok, thanks that's probably true.

I was very moved by her tears of joy at the end, you could really feel all the pressure coming off. She promised to win a medal for her grandfather and she did it, now she can retire in peace.

She also needed that medal for her after all these injuries and misses , she really needed this medal and she got what she fought for so I'm also happy for her , even i wanted gold but bronze is better than nothing

I don't think we're overperforming at all...

our gold medals came from 3 pre-race favourites (Moioli was actually more than favourite, she could only lose gold given her superiority...and not only from this season; Fontana was the co-favourite with Fan, who failed...so, also her gold is more than logical; and the same goes for Goggia...if she doesn't do any mistake -and today she didn't- she's by far the best among nowadays downhill specialists, with Vonn being the only one who can beat her, but only on certain conditions that today weren't there)...

and among the "minor" medals, only Tumulero's and Windisch's bronze medals are really "surprising" (even the short track relay was expected to be in the final..a 4-team final which obviously always gives chances to all the starters, especially in a sport where it's so easy to fall down and/or getting DQed)...

but, as a compensation, we really miss at least another 4/5 medals according to our preview (and 2 of them, Visintin in men's SBX and Goggia's Super-G, were not just "medals" in our expectations)...

so, we're not overperforming at all...and actually we're still under the par, so to say...

Haha, i knew that you would say that, you are really crazy. Noone predicted Italy to win so many medals and the part about Moioli is almost comical. You won pretty much every medal you were expected to win (except for Visintin) and even a couple more (shorttrack relay, Windisch, biathlon team relay, Tumulero), baffled to see someone not calling that overperforiming. Before the games you had 2-3 gold medal chances and now you have already 3, so no objective observer would say that you didn't have (almost) perfect results so far. If this really isn't overperforming, then there must be some websites out there that predicted this result.

Here you are...Sports Illustrated predicted 12 medals (4 gold) for Italy.

    • http://i.imgur.com/gLJZbix.jpg   Honestly football is just on another level. For other sports, an expanded field or creating multiple host cities likely only works with baseball, cricket and maybe basketball, and only in very specific countries.
    • No streaming for the games in India. I contacted IOC they just sent me a list where the games will be shown live.    Last games we had the Olympic channel and YouTube showing the live coverage for regions with no media rights. This time sadly no such schedule.   So much about making the games accessible to all...
    • What revealed those files of Epstein !!!! thousands of scandals , horrible diguisting things mixing politic criminalities , robbery , scam , manipulation...etc    all those celebrities of shht that you love
    • I wonder if instead of having flexibility around what sport to add there should be one or two team sports per game with an expanded field (of 16 or 32 or w/e) where the host gets to pick which which team sports (if any) has an expanded field.
    • Dunno if this is geoblocked, but this is from our weekly comedy show Saturday Night Live
    • I don't buy that she's doing this just to start the race if she thinks she won't be competitive.  We'll probably know more after the training run and far be it from me to know how that's going to work with a torn ACL, but if she knows she can't do it, she'll give that spot to another skier
    • And this with relatively small fields, so lots of nations with no skin in the game.
    • It is by far the biggest ticket sales of any sport at the Olympics - even 70% full stadia means about 58 matches with 30-40,000 odd crowds - even the athletics rarely sells that many tickets (usually across 18 sessions full to the brim, the equivalent of about 36 matches of 30-40,000.) and no sport other than track and field comes close. Moreover, it tends to create an easy win for 'spreading' the Olympic bounty, and rarely requires any meaningful new build, unlike Athletics. You are talking, when you add in VIp ticket sales and the usual venue add ons, generating revenue in the $200-300 million range - Revenue which, unlike most of the money from the Games (TV rights, sponsorship, branded merch), goes to the host organiser, not the IOC.   The thing about being an Olympic fanatic is that we often get here precisely because we rejected to some extent or other the overwhelming soccer culture that exists everywhere outside North america and the antipodes. So we aren't Olympic football's target audience. Casual fans who like football - of whom there are a LOT - are.   I do wonder, in all sincerity, if Brisbane might be better doing this with cricket than soccer - or if LA would have been better doing it with baseball.
