Flying is done on huge-ass hills, of which there are only five in the world. One could sort of compare it with running 5k vs 10k: it's both distance running and generally those who are good in one are good in the other as well, but there are significant differences.

basically, bigger hills, faster inrun speed, way longer distance covered by the jumpers...

 

then of course, there are also other technical details and especially the mental aspect that play a decisive role, but for the average spectator watching on tv the 3 parameters mentioned above are the main things to be noticed...
