First dressage competition of the year was held this weekend in Las Vegas (it was World Cup qualifier for the North American League).

:USA Steffen Peters & Rosamunde won with 78%. They are very much on the way to WC Final in Omaha with that score. However, probably the most interesting pair that competed in Las Vegas was Dawn White-O'Connor & Legolas. Legolas is the horse that Steffen rode in Rio, and now he offered the ride to his long-time assistant rider. Dawn's scores were obviously lower than Steffen's scores with Legolas, but it will be interesting to see how they improve. :)

Speaking of new year, the traditional Global Dressage Festival in Florida has started this week. This effectively means for me watching late evening/night live streams every second Friday (until the end of the March). Bring it on.:cheer:

Who knows, maybe I'll go and watch if Samorin gets it :d Although, so far I have never witnessed an equestrian event live.

Šamorín is close to Bratislava in the south west part of the country few km of the Hungarian boarders, exactly 375km from Rijeka. some 4 and half hours by car. even much more closer than Šamorín --- Košice, so I assume it will be a sin for such equestrian super fan to not use such opportunity to attend the world equestrian games :d

Looks like the terrible season of jumping WC is continuing. Out of the first 10 riders in Leipzig, 5 of them went clear. So this means we'll have another huge and useless jump-off that nobody wants to see...

Only like 2 courses this season were appropriately demanding.

Thankfully the course setter made things interesting later on by setting a non-straightforward jump-off. Tactics played a big part. :)

Gregory Wathelet was the winner and, interestingly, it looks like he will qualify for his first WC final. He has been at the top level for a while.

    • How wonderful!   I met the national rowing (and beach rowing) coach of EST/LTU/LAT on the way to ice hockey one day, who's Canadian by the way. I also flew home on the same flight as JC Schoonmaker's mom and friends, so we chatted for a bit.
    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
