Well, I would not underestimate your roster. Look at the Czech roster from WCH 2010 and what they were able to achieve! As far as I remember, there were 15 withdrawals from NHL players and there were bunch of player from home extraliga. And playing against big stars from NHL. Let's see.

Comparing :CZE and :SVK hockey depth is a bit unreasonable, to not say absurd the least :d we love this sport like religion, but you guys are still miles ahead of us in every sense, from money to amount of registered players.

That is why I am still speaking & dreaming about Czechoslovak hockey team (I can immediately name a roster that may fight for gold with 75% CZE + 25% SVK players in)

IIHF Statement

The IIHF does not agree with the actions taken yesterday by the Mayor of Riga and the Latvian Foreign Minister to use the flag of a participating country in the 2021 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship for a political message.

The actions of the Belarus government are separate from the players who are competing under the Belarus flag at this tournament. The players have been welcomed to Latvia as guests and should not have to see their flag removed without their consent from the public display of the 16 participating countries. This is in direct contradiction to the host country slogan “Passion. No Borders.”

Therefore, the IIHF has asked the Mayor of Riga to urgently take down the IIHF flag from the same area, as well as the World Championship flag which bears the IIHF name. In accordance with the IIHF Statutes, we are an apolitical sports organization, and are demanding that the IIHF is removed from any association with the political statements the Mayor and Foreign Minister have made by changing the flag of our Member.

The IIHF will retain the Belarus flag in all World Championship venues for the duration of the tournament, and hopes that the mayor’s office of Riga will reconsider its decision to remove the Belarus flag from the group of participating nations being displayed in Riga.

Are they playing "national" artists during a team pre-game/practice? It sounds like Gigi D'Agostino music during an Italian practice wasn't exactly random? :p

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
