As far as I understand, Nikita Sheremet swam junior world record in 50 m free during first leg of 4x50 m mens relay :hyper:.

Ukraine finished fourth and set new national record

day 1 according to plan for the :ITA team

1 gold (the men's 4*50m free relay) and a couple of silver medals (Simona Quadarella over the women's 400m free -beating the old NR held by Federica Pellegrini- in a race where :GER Isabel Gose improved the ER, previously held by :ESP Mireia Belmonte and the wpmen's 4*50m free, where we were on pace for the WR for 3 legs and then Cocconcelli blew everything out with an awful dive, losing a 3m advantage over :NED Van Roon, who went on to easily win the race for their team in the end)

in the other events, the usual Thomas Ceccon didn't even bother to enter the 200m back (likely an easy gold), a good Simone Cerasuolo in the men's 100m breast (but the race for gold is closed by the unbeatable :NED Caspar Corbeau), a great Silvia Di Pietro, who set a new NR in the 1st leg of the women's relay and earned herself a good place in the final of the women's 50m fly and a few disappointing performances by the other guys (expected, but still)

Pretty exciting to see :IRL John Shortt in action in the 200m back stroke. he’s world junior champion (long course) and set a new world junior record in winning gold here (in a new championship record too)

Our only other previous world junior champ won an Olympic medal (Mona McSharry) so fingers crossed now for John

So far, these championships are a very poor for us. 4 medals, 3 of which were in relays... Maybe 10 will be at the end, but we recently had 22 medals and in 2021: 35:yikes: It`s looking at our worst performance in 10-15 years, since the introduction of mixed stafett, etc. Individually: 1 medal is a terrible result and tomorrow we won't even have anyone in the final... We'll probably get another medal in the relay – again mixed... I'm not very interested in the European Short Course Swimming Champ., but it's good places to write that we are in a course to our worst performance in over a min. 10 years.

It`s our historical medal tally (the last time we had less than 10 medals was in 2012: then there were 40 events, and now there are 42 (probably more 2 mixed events):

very poor championship...we only won the medal table with 20 medals (9 golds) and the points ranking with almost 200 points advantage over the second ranked team (:NED:raspberry:

try again, and you'll be luckier :sure:

    • I will try for Croatia:    Archery (1) : we never had a representative, but were two times very close. I think we have a chance in Recurve for a single male quota, and in mixed compound,  Realistic one quota    Athletics (8) : difficult as many things will change in the next 2-3 seasons, but let's. say 8, I think that could be a realistic number   Badminton (1) : hopefully our Indonesian import will manage to qualify     Basketball (0): small chances in both male and 3x3 male teams , but somehow I doubt it    Boxing (2): two male quotas    Canoe slalom (1). maybe with a small chance for two places, but one is realistic    Canoe sprint (1): similar to slalom, maybe two, but one is realistic, but lets see how the new qualification system plays out    Cycling (2): would bee very happy with a quota in BMX freestyle and male road race    Diving (1): hoping that Matej Nevescanin will qualify    Fencing (0): very small chance in mens foil, but I guess will not happen.    football (0): there is always talks about our male team, but never succeeded, I am afraid will be the same for LA 2028    Artistic gymnastics (4): Kovtun plus two additional male quotes plus one female   Handball (14): the mens team should qualify    Judo (5): four female quota plus one male    Rowing (5). difficult to say as boats/crews are not defined yet. But I expect 4 mens places plus 1 female. Maybe more, but let see    Sailing (6): somehow not a good development in this sports, could be even less than 6 quotas.    Shooting (5): hopefully two trap and two male rifle quotas plus one surprise    Swimming (6): will be brave here and say 5 male plus one female. I think we have a realistic chance to qualify a freestyle relay.    Table tennis (5): hope for 3 male and two female quotas incl. mixed doubles (Arapovic/Ban)   Tennis (6): still too early, and always the question who is really interested in playing.   Taekwondo (3): I am seeing two females plus one male qualifying   Waterpolo (11): mens team should be safe, small chance for our women's team.   Wrestling (1) considering the Russian expansion, one quota would be great     in all other sports hopeless case for Croatia. But 88 would be a great delegation, probably too optimistic
