I feel like if Malinin did LP alone, we'd win regardless of who else skated.

Malinin doing short instead of long will give him more rest ahead of his individual competition.

Yep, for sure, and probably they know his stamina.  (But he's so young, and surely he can handle an extra couple of minutes!)  :)  (Not me telling an Olympic athlete what he should do...haha.

Team event starts Friday:

Rhythm Dance 03:55 EST

Pairs Short 05:35

Women's Short 07:35

Any thoughts as to who we'll send to compete in these?

Rhythmn Dance is obvious, I think.  The key to the whole team event for me is how many placements can C&B gap the Japanese.

But our ice dance pairs are all better than Japan, so I wonder if C&B will do both, or let someone else take over.

By comparison, our third best ice dance team scored 70 points better than Japan's entry in the Grand Prix (source)  (Edit: Disregard my scoring math...I hadn't remembered that the Team event is about placement, not points.)

Good start in the team event. Needed a top 5 finish by Kam/O'Shea and they got it. Could've even gotten 4th if they didn't make that big mistake.

I’m getting nervous about this event.  Kam/O’Shea need to be 4th in the free skate to make things a little safer.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
