Did nobody tell Flora about this rule? Because to me this was a pretty clear strategy call to give up on gold in order to try to get bronze.

But this has been the rule in FIS Big Air basically for ever and the athletes know it.

it's the first thing I wrote: rules are rules

so, I'm totally aware that she had to keep that (underscored) 84 and had no chance for a better medal

but nobody will make me change my mind about the fact that the rules are wrong (if it's 2 scores out of 3 jumps, it should be mandatory to make 3 different jumps and take the best 2, not changing the score of an already good effort)

and you all know the rest about my opinion on these events and the competitions decided only by the judges' taste

Playing at home is truly magical. :CHN had its best campaign in history in 2022, and now it's barely managing one gold medal just four years later. Let's see if they can manage it by the end of the Games, but it's getting difficult.

Let's see what they'll do in the Aerials.

To be honest, I'm not that confident personally. In the Winter Olympics held abroad, we only won one individual gold medal in men's aerials in 2006, and there have been no other gold medal records since then.

Muir :(

British people tend to turn on cursed athletes sadly and get fed up of the unlucky losers.

Flora could've done a new trick, or tried to improve on the 84, that's on her not the rules. :bones:

no, to me it's only on the rules

if it's 2 out of 3, it should be obvious that they have to be 3 different tricks (and then the 2 actually best scores count)

So I'll admit to not being an expert on this, but I would presume that the additional rotation ups the difficulty and then grab/landing takes points off. So had it been perfectly executed, she might have scored higher than that. Which is why Tabanelli scored 1.25 more than her for performing the same trick, but better.

Also - and again, I'm no expert - my understanding of the landing scoring is that it only significantly matters if you actually touch the ground with a body part that isn't your skis. Whilst it looked close, from the replays I saw, she didn't actually touch it. And I presume the judges have a better camera options than I do.

Either way, she didn't medal so it doesn't really matter one way or the other.

Grab is extra points, multiplies by difficulty.  Tips of the skis, not so difficult.  On the boot, very difficult.  Also landing shows if the rotation is complete.

But how long have you been saying this? Just a question.

If there's posts of you saying this earlier, I'll gladly take it back.

She didn't have to take the underscored 84. She could have tried to improve that. She took the risk that the chances of improving Jump A was more likely than improving Jump B. Which is usually because an athlete is more comfortable performing one type than the other.

Whilst I don't personally like judging only events, I do think making athletes show they can execute multiple tricks is better. Even though it hurt :GBR today (Muir would have got silver if it was just the 'best' single jump).
