The European Team Champs is always a highlight of the athletics calendar for me. I even ran my own fantasy team championships for each continent here on Totallympics once upon a time but it was too hard to maintain. But so much fun with the format and the promotion and relegation.

Yep, took a while to get going but after about 10 events when every result brings about a change in the table....I guess it might be different if we saw if every week, but once a year is perfect.  Back in the 50s and 60s these multi-national matches invitational challenges were the common form of athletics meets until the likes of Oslo, Zurich with their concentration on World Records etc took over, so I suppose that was why the European Cup was created in the 1960s.

It's biannual now which makes the anticipation even higher. I'd gladly have it back every year though (with Olympic year being the exception).

It is one of the first sporting events I can remember from my childhood, for me it also has an emotional value. Fantastic competition.

Biannual = Twice every year.

Biennial = Once every two years.

Olympiad = A period of four years between Olympics.

 

 

Sesquicentennial = Once every 150 years.

Sothic Cycle = The  cycle of once every 1460 years.

Off we go for an exciting day with every single jump, throw & run going to be crucial.....

 

66.89 NR for  in the hammer......Ypsi Moreno the only athlete so far to master the crucial "yell very loud at the hammer once you've thrown it" technique.

Yep Iceland & Andorra DQF in the Hurdles, so even Iceland can't afford many more of those.
