IOC President Election 2025

Well, Bach is definitely popular. We have to remind ourselves that he considered a third term and we saw 1 hour or more of people begging him to do it during an IOC Session.

He's the man who gives out the money, so he will always be treated like Louis XIV at Versailles.

I'm glad Coe didn't win, because I don't like him. The name of the person who won doesn't really matter, just what they do. We'll see what she gets up to. I'm much less interested in the trans thing than whether she keeps up Agenda 2020 and tries to make the Olympics cool. I think all of them would have. Also surely that means she's giving up any government job she has in :ZIM.

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

Nice interview here: https://www.olympics.com/en/news/ioc-president-elect-kirsty-coventry-interview-challenge-status-quo

I wonder if this quote below is only related to audience or would mean stricter rules to Universality quotas. It would be nice to make sure more athletes gain quotas and not the only (best) athlete get them for 3 or 4 times.

Quote

The first female President of the IOC has two key goals: breaking through the status quo, as well as making the Olympic Games more accessible to the younger generation.

and maybe we'll finally get 50m events fully at an Olympics which is something I assume she'll be looking at doing.

But...please elaborate: why? Why on earth would it be good to have another medal chance for swimmers, who on average already have an insane amount? Or better: if the 50's are added, which swimming events would be taken out to make place for that?

Not so sure about this election outcome but:

1. I am glad that woman won

2. I am glad that someone from Africa won

3. I am glad that outsider for the position won

4. I hope that she will be sane enough to enrich the Games with good sport choices - to focus on athletes, not on DEI policy

5. Modernisation of Games is a must but it shouldn't be done the way Bach did it. Experiments with stupid mix relays, breakdancing are here to reminds us what NOT to do.

6. I hope that she will solve participation issue

Not that i followed the process consistently but from what i saw or heard, Coe and Samaranch Jr were obvious favorites. They were hyped, Kristy wasnt. At least i thought so.

Her being endorsed by Bach is completely new to me.

    • Interesting, for only 2 months i think i have seen some kind of coin from all of the big countries - Germany, Italy, Spain, Holland, France, Portugal, Belgium, Finland, Ireland and yes the 2 euro from Croatia. But some of them were the smaller ones, 10, 5, 2 cents.    Expectedly there aren't any from the smaller countries so far. Nothing from the Baltics, Cyprus, Slovenia, Malta, Andorra etc. But also a bit surprising i haven't seen any from Greece yet.    Don't know from what part of Italy are you, but it's safe to say that when summer hits there will be a lot of Bulgarians visiting Rome, so i'm sure they'll bring some of our coins to spread around.
    • I choose to collect only coins in circulation (and I have also found coins in circulation that should not be on the market; you can find a bit of everything). From my experience, it takes 4-5 years for coins to reach southern Italy, so I have no idea how it will work in Bulgaria. Incidentally, I am curious to see when I will see my first Bulgarian coin. I have not yet seen a Croatian coin (introduced in 2023!).
    • Yes, i saw that there are a lot of commemorative coins. But to get some of those, i would need to buy them, as i don't know how much of them are in circulation. And the chances of such making it to Bulgaria are rather slim.    Still, if i find some sports ones on a good price, maybe i will order a few.

    • Have you already started looking for the hundreds of commemorative 2 euro coins? There are loads of them, including sports-themed ones.
    • Don't know if someone else is collecting Euro coins, but since we joined the zone it's been fun looking at what you can get.    It took only 2 months, but today i finally got my first Slovakian coin.  @hckošice
