the first fencing world ranking (FWR) announced, but I tried to understand how the ranking is calculated but I failed ..any explanation would be great.

Many thanks mate

the part I have missed earlier is the ranking points awarded to athletes based on their performance in the seeding round not the direct elimination round nor the ranking round during qualification

The FWR now is matching the results from the seeding round

Excellent news guys!  In a rare explosion of Common Sense, we are getting the whole of the Budapest World Cup live & FTA on the Olympic Channel this weekend!  :cheer::clap::thumbup::bounce:

Both Women's Semi Finals from yesterday on the site, the Men's Semis today, and the Finals tomorrow!

They've completely revamped the onscreen graphics - bit hard to tell how it will all work because for the semis they were concentrating on the middle of the race where the Line of Doom was.  And they broke down on the fourth shoot  so nothing new there.  :d

But when they DO work, Eurovision style, you do get a real-time idea of changing overall position, which was always hard before.

this is the first time I have watched the obstacles, I must say that all in all it is not as bad as I imagined, quite enjoyable

And there can be disasters - think two falls = :redcard:.  But even without, there are lots of place changes.

Many things will probably change, and many athletes who were previously at the top will find it difficult even to get into the final (see Seo). In general, the Egyptians seem to have anticipated the others on the preparation of the new format

    • Some notable  retirements:   Elisavet Pesiridou (athletics - 100m hurdles) - She announced her retirement on her 34th birthday. She competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. She narrowly missed Paris 2024 despite being in good form, the rest of he field seemed to get stronger and her ranking was a bit lower even though she was quite consistent. She struggled with injuries in 2025.   Fani Tzeli (taekwondo) - She was 7th in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Still, she is only 24 yo and seemed to be rising up again after winning bronze at the European Championships so it is a bit surprising.   Aikaterini Divari (sailing) - She competed in Tokyo 2020 but didn't qualify for Paris 2024. Only 25 yo.   AJ Ginnis (alpine skiing) - Despite winning a silver at the World Championships he never got to compete at the Winter Olympics as he was always unfortunately injured. A shame as he is by far our best winter athlete ever. Only 31 yo, and I have a feeling he might come back in 2030 based on his last interview...
