The Egyptian Open begins today. This is a Diamond Level event, the highest outside of the World Championships in the PSA Tour.

1st day of the men's qualifier saw most of the top seeds advance with the biggest upset being :HKG Matthew Lai defeating his compatriot Henry Leung.

The women's qualifier saw similar results with the biggest upset being :EGY Malak Fathy defeating :FIN Emilai Soini

The following won a qualifying spot to compete in the main draw.

Men's draw

:ENG Patrick Rooney

:COL Matias Knudsen

:HKG Matthew Lai

:ESP Ivan Perez

Women's draw

:FRA Lauren Baltayan

:EGY Nardine Garas

:ESP Marta Dominguez

:HKG Toby Tse

The round of 48 begins in a few hours

Squash is sth totally new for me.

My question is - what you think, there are no quali system yet but how many athletes per gender from one NOC will be able to participate in LA?

I wonder if there is a chance for a clean-sweep like Egyptian women in 2025 wch.

Quota is 16 athletes per gender, so i guess there can be 2 athletes per NOC in each event, but 3 ??? Hard to say i guess.

#TeamMoura-heywoodu

I am guessing something like 2 athletes per NOC subject to being in the top 10, remaining quotas would be by ranking and maybe 1 final qualification event, that would be more fair in my opinion.

The semifinals for the Egyptian Open have been decided.

Men

:EGY Mostafa Asal vs. :EGY Karim Abdel Gawad

:FRA Victor Crouin vs. :PER Diego Elias

Women

:EGY Nouran Gohar vs. :EGY Hania El Hammamy

:EGY Amina Orfi vs. :EGY Fayrouz Aboelkheir

Unsurprisingly Egypt is doing well.
