Olympic Games Television Coverage Database

Hi everyone,

I'm starting this thread to share an Olympic Games database, covering the Olympic Games throughout the years. I began with the 1992 Olympic Games, but I will add content from other Olympic Games as well.

This thread is meant to compile full events or highlights from past Olympic Games that were televised, all in one place.

In some cases, the events have the natural audio of the event, uploaded by the IOC on their YouTube page or website.

In other cases, events were recorded by individuals who enjoy preserving Olympic Games commentaries from their country, and these recordings are available on various video websites.

Some rules for this thread are:

  • Only TV coverage of the events is allowed.
  • One event can have multiple TV coverages from around the world; for example, the Final of the 1992 Basketball event can have both BBC and NBC coverage.
  • No amateur footage is allowed.
  • No footage from official films is allowed.
  • Videos from websites other than YouTube are also allowed.

You can submit a suggestion for any Olympic Games here in the thread, and I will add it to the database.

If you want to send suggestions, you can also contact me via private messages.

Below is the link to the spreadsheet. If you have any suggestions to improve the spreadsheet, feel free to share them in the thread:

Note: If i liked your post that means that i already updated the spreadsheet with the video that you provided. i'm doing this to track what i have already insert into the spreadsheet or not.

my 2 cents, just to start the thread (unfortunately, I don't have enough time to help with a proper research :dunno:)

Judo, women's -72kg Final (Korean commentary, I think)

:KOR Kim Mi-Young vs :JPN Yoko Tanabe

Waterpolo, men's Gold Medal Match (epic!)

:ESP Spain vs :ITA Italy

no audio

Spanish audio

Athletics - Women's 800m - Dutch commentary

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

I made an Playlist for the 1992 Olympic games with the videos that are on youtube, is not 100 percent upgrade with the spreedsheet but im updating ASAP.

the events are in day and hour order.

i already got a lot of events from 1992 so i think i will go to 1980 which is my another favorite, but if you guys want to send a video from any olympics feel free and just follow the rules above.

What happens the broken eggs is not a matter that concerns the system greatly.

    • Yeah you do have to worry whether she is being taken advantage of in someway by the Chinese coaches, and being forced to overtrain. Clearly those performances are wildly impressive, but my 2 caveats.   China has a long history of falsifying ages of swimmers, although those performances for a swimmer several years older than 11 would still be crazy.   Genetically, younger Chinese females have excellent swimming Physiques, being very tall and thin As they develop they grow wider and lose some of that benefical body shape.    There have been many younger Chinese swimmers in the past who have put in draw dropping times and then faded in obscurity.   Despite this, her performances and her depth are remarkable and she could be a generational talent, but we can’t jump on the bandwagon yet.
    • Dame Lisa Marie Carrington for sure mopped the floor with Shtyl, having 23 combined golds from Olympics + WChs (8+15), while Shtyl has only one medal from the Olympics and it's not gold.
    • Not saying she’s doping or anything, but the time is so incredible (it’s good even for 17-18 year olds) that I begin to wonder what the Chinese coaches are putting her through during training.    I mean, she raced in 10 events at the Chinese Olympic Trials… even Phelps at Beijing 2008 didn’t have a schedule that big…   Either way to me it’s hard to see her performing at the highest level beyond her 20s.

    • Maria Sakkari with another R1 loss in Grand Slam. This time she retired injured after the first set. I don't remember a Top 10 player losing so many R1 matches in Grand Slam tbh.
