Over the weekend Ireland voted to join World Boxing. I think the LA decisions made it an easy choice this time

Crazy that there should even have been a debate but I get the impression that all sports in Ireland are governed with simmering cauldrons of ancient rivalries dating back to the cattle-raiding era.

The argument against it was that the existing body had a full programme from cadets to youths to underage while world boxing had not a single mention of any tournaments under the “elite”

While I didn’t agree with the vote, I don’t think their worries were unfounded

    • I still shocks, that a country of 4-5 million inhabitants? can be a powerhouse in almost every winter sport + handball, football (most recently with Haaland) and athletics: Ingebrigtsen, Warholm, etc. With such a small population, they can't be missing out on any major talent, surely? This must be the best training system in the world...
