It sucks the men's division in alpine and cross-country is more competitive, leading to less quotas for the top 10 nations.

To give an idea of how competitive it is on the men's side, Norway (yes, NORWAY) doesn't even have the max quota.

So Hollmann is auto qualified as the winner. Based on my quick calculations, Antoine Cyr and Remi Drolet are also qualified as the next highest placed athletes on the combined results point list. Assuming no one is granted exceptional status, the winner of the sprint tomorrow will get the. 5th and final quota. But if one of the above four athletes wins, then Graham Ritchie will get the quota as the next highest athlete ok the points list. This means that McKeever and Leveille are most likely out.

Meanwhile on the women's side, Sonjaa Schmidt won again. This means that Amelia Wells, Alison Mackie, and Jasmine Drolet all qualify based on combined points. Katherine Stewart-Jones is already on the team. Liliane Gagnon was a DNS again so she may be given exceptional status. Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt would likely qualify otherwise.

@Topicmaster1010 @intoronto are you somewhat familiar with Amelia Wells, Maximillian Hollmann, and Tom Stephen? Were they good as juniors? Do they have previous WCs/WCHs? First time I'm hearing their names.

Thomas Stephen won bronze in the 30km mass start at the 2021 world junior championships and was part of the junior relay team that won silver in 2020 (with Drolet, Leveille, and Mckeever) and bronze in 2022 (with Mckeever, Masson and Moreau).

Hollmann was on our team that placed fifth at this years world championships along with (Cyr, Mckeever and Leveille), Gold in the Mixed relay at the under 23 world in 2023 (with Dueling, Jasmine Drolet and Liliane Gagnon)

And Amelia Wells has no notable results but is the "training buddy" of Schmidt for the past six years so that says a lot based off how she has been doing here.

    • Honestly, it’s not very clear what is happening in Italy — anything could happen. There is extremely high turnout, and no pollster, politician, or newspaper had predicted it; now they’re all there throwing out data. No one has any idea why people voted, also because it was very technical and almost empty polling stations were expected. It will be interesting to understand whether this is a protest vote against the government or a protest vote against the judiciary.
