Curling Discussion | Qualification to Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Don’t mind the new blank end rule (Dunstone disagrees, and probably also Koe who blanks half their games :p), but this shootout bullshit sucks:facepalm:

It really should be an extra end, rather than a draw to the button.:pope:

But in GS tournaments, they have also eliminated EEs in the knockout stage :smash:

Yeah, those idiots that thought of that should be banned from ever influencing anything GSOC rule related ever again, maybe even in general :bones:

:hyper: Looks like :CAN Homan is on her way to yet another win and slam title, skip stones still to go and a lot of red stones in the rings

These first three weeks of winter sports have been fantastic for Canada. Another event, another success. Homan beats Team Trinzoni easily and without any problems :yes

They’ve done it again, and complete dominance in the process :hyper::champion::clap:

:CAN Team Homan beats :SUI Team Tirinzoni by a whopping 8-2 to win their second slam title of the season, and with that Homan and Miskew have surpassed the legend himself Kevin Martin for the most slam titles by an individual in history!

At this point, Homan has had her number for the past few years, I think Constantini, Hasselborg, and Gim will be bigger competition for them at the Olympics, which is wild to think about considering how good Tirinzoni is. Although those three are slightly less consistent, so who knows how the cards will fall in Milano-Cortina.

Olympic/world events usually hold a few surprises, but the women's tournament seems to be a sure thing for Homan and her teammates. Costantini has always been very inconsistent; she needs to have the right week to reach the semi-finals (and yesterday the rules also played a part...), but I would place them slightly below Switzerland and Sweden.

The men's tournament, on the other hand, looks really competitive. You might need popcorn to enjoy it at MiCo :p

Well we all know what happened to Tirinzoni in Beijing after starting 8-0, and Homan has yet to make a playoffs in two Olympic appearances (mind you the second one wasn’t her fault), so you never know. Obviously the circumstances are different though, this is probably the most dominant curling team in history, and it’ll be super disappointing if she isn’t able to at least make it to the final, and even win.

Yeah for the men it’ll probably be between :GBR:CAN:ITA:SUI:SWE but you can’t count out :NOR:USA:GER they’re dark horses and if they catch on fire could make a run for the podium.

    • I can finally piggyback off @vinipereira predictions to deliver my own    I'll be honest. I was rather busy during most of the awards season, so I wasn't able to see as much as I wanted to, or normally would have been able to. Therefore, I'm relying heavily on pundit predictions and general feel this time around.     If there was a category for best poster artwork, my nominees would be: Bugonia, Eddington, Dracula, The Sound of Falling, Sirāt   I'd give best animal acting to Pipa from Sirāt   And my favorite scenes from the year are... Kids getting bewitched, Weapons Gladys getting her just desserts, Weapons Car chase, One Battle After Another I Lied To You, Sinners Turn that shit up, Sirāt Playing with arrows, The Love That Remains Street dance, The Life of Chuck Cold open, Warfare Final scene, The Plague Ship prayer, The Testament of Ann Lee

    • Yeah same story. Good for Venezuela.
    • Btw I highly recommend the short film 'Butterfly' which has a story related to the Olympics.
    • Once again here I am with my annual Oscar predictions post. Last year I predicted 13/23 winners which was my worst results ever by far. For the second consecutive year Brazil is nominated so I'm hoping that 'The Secret Agent' wins something, especially because it's a film from my home state. I watched 34 out of the 35 feature films (only 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' missing) and all 15 short films nominated, so I leave a personal ranking of all the categories.   ["will win" is my prediction / "could win", my alternate prediction / "should win", my personal ranking / "shoud have been nominated", a way to remember other notable work].
    • I don't know how soon that'll be though... and until then not holding my breath. Really wanted to see Caissie crushing balls at the Olympics, he deserved it for his play this tournament, and now he might not get the opportunity to. He's still young, but this will probably be Canada's best chance, and he'll only be around for Brisbane 2032 at best considering the bids in contention for 2036.    It just sucks, constant disappointment for the Canadians this year with barely anything to cheer for, and coming so close only to come up short... I'd rather us have just lost in the group stage
    • I think instead of allocating 2 spots here (for Americas) WBSC should have allowed 3 spots (rather than 2) in the 2027 WBSC premiere. ( 1 each for Asia, Europe & Americas)   That way it would have ensured two things : ONLY the top team from Americas gets the quota here ( deservedly so) additionally it would have allowed teams from Americas a second shot at qualification from the 2027 premieres.    Getting only 1 tournament , more than 2 years ahead of olympics is very harsh on the teams from Americas.
